Bought this for my 55lb mix. I've been working with dogs professionally for almost a decade and I am super picky about the equipment I use with my dogs. I've recently bought and returned several different muzzles and this one is by far my favorite and I will definitly be keeping it. All the other ones I tried (for the same price) were either made with crap material or fit my dog awkwardly.(he has a bit of extra neck skin that tends to push most muzzles out of proper and comfortable position) But this muzzle is a work of art. Beautifully made with real leather, perfect fit and shape! I would assume that the reviewers who are saying their dog ripped it off or ate it didn't take the time to properly muzzle train their dogs and just threw it on and let their dog go ham or left them unsupervised.

Excellent high quality muzzle. Much better and more functional than the nylon types that my dog removed in 3 seconds. Stays on and gives them more room so they don’t get that clostrophobic panic attack. I highly recommend this unit

I ordered this muzzle for my doberman. We live in Florida, and he tries to eat bufo toads. (They contain a deadly toxin to dogs.) At night we muzzle him to keep him from doing this. We have been using a plastic basket muzzle for the last couple years, but he recently figured out he could push his nose straight down against the toad and it kind of squishes up through the plastic grid of the basket muzzle. Additionally, he is a rescue who was abused and unfortunately, even with a ton of positive conditioning, he is not super tolerate of muzzles. When we put his on, he tends to either try and wipe his face against you or ram you with his nose in the underpants area (ouch!). He is very clear about how much he hates his muzzle! I had been looking for a while for a leather muzzle, thinking it would be a little softer, but really actively started looking once he started squishing the toads through his muzzle. This muzzle is absolutely perfect if you are trying to prevent your dog from eating or licking something. It completely blocks the mouth opening. My doberman also seems to tolerate the leather muzzle a little more. I assume it is softer on his face. The muzzle itself is very sturdy and well made. All of the joints are grommeted together and the leather is thick. I am very happy with it and it serves the exact purpose we needed, hence my high rating. For my specific needs, it probably deserves a 5 star rating, but there are some things though that I think you should be aware of when considering this muzzle for your dog. #1. It is designed for a more square headed dog than a doberman. For the size I had to buy to fit his muzzle, the head straps were too long. This was easily rectified using a belt hole punch tool. Again, the leather straps are very thick and sturdy, so adding new holes to shorten the strap does not comprise their integrity. #2. It is harder to buckle than the plastic compression buckles on a lot of other muzzles. You could switch the strap out to solve that issue if you wanted. I like the added security of the more traditional leather strap buckle, but it is more difficult to put on my dog. #3. THIS MUZZLE SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME!!! This is particularly true in warm environments. Dogs cannot drink at all while wearing the muzzle. The ability to pant also seems to be limited and air flow in general is definitely impeded. When my dog is breathing with it on, he takes much deeper breaths and it makes a loud sound similar to trying to suck air through a straw. There are only 4 holes on the front in each corner and then some holes on the side. The holes on the side don't really seem to do anything as they often end up pressed against his muzzle and blocked by fur. Nearly all the air flow is coming from the front four corners. My dog only wears this muzzle for 5-10 minutes maximum to go potty at night. I would never leave it on him longer than that as I think he would seriously overheat with it on. Used for a very specific situation like ours, it is perfect. If you want to use it to walk your dog with or for longer periods of time, it could be quite dangerous. I am considering trying to punch two holes in the front where my dog's nose is, which I think would alleviate some of the air flow issue. Again, I am very happy with the purchase and it is perfect for our particular situation. Just please be aware that this is not safe for exercise or extended wear needs.

We have a beautiful Great Pyrenesee (130 lbs) and this fit her perfectly and stays on! It was a little bit tricky to put it on her the first time but is easy now. She can breath just fine and can still bark but she can no longer eat our other dog's poopsicles!! Yay! Seems to be a winter thing for her (in Minnesota - very cold!) so won't need it in the summer. We have been so grossed out and embarrassed by this behavior and have tried everything to get her to stop but nothing worked. This did it! I know there's other dog owners out there whose dogs do this too.... Try this muzzle!!

This is our 4th muzzle from different manufacturers. This one definetly lasted the longest, but after about a month, the leather became too stretchy and began to get soft and break down. We're going to buy another one and try to condition the leather to see if it holds longer. She really didn't mind this one, and she's Houdini. It doesn't stop barking, it just muffles it. This is only for intermittent use because they cannot eat or drink with it on.

Bought several 3 years ago, straps stretched out/narrowed - less secure. Bought 3 more this year, straps wider & thicker. But, within ONE week, the rivets, in the same spots on 2 muzzles in use on different dogs broke off, leaving DANGEROUS metal pieces that cut our hands, caused injuries when the dogs brushed up against us. Now we cannot use them at all due to safety concerns & prior injuries. Had requested replacements for stretched out straps for better security, but never received any answer to request. Very frustrating, unhappy & disappointed in this product.
