The information in this book does not just apply to fantasy novels but to teaching reading and especially fiction in middle school. Quick read with good information and if a teacher is teaching fantasy there certainly is a lot of detail about that. The fantasy part can be ignored so to get the big ideas that are easily accessible for teaching reading in general

I use a lot of Teacher's College books for my 6th grade students. This book had lessons that were already planned. One thing I did not like is that they used several anchor texts; one being a book that would be used as a read a loud. I had no time to read an entire book to my class, but overall all this book provided useful ideas.

Great resource to teach fantasy genre. It made my unit tops. The lessons made the unit more purposeful and meaningful to my students. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. Buy it! Your students will benefit.
