I would assume not, since they're plastic and not metal

The plastic stays are very easy to remove, and should be when you launder your shirts. I wouldn't iron the shirt with the plastic stays in place

Can these be sewn into the inseam of shorts to keep them from writing up???

I would not try it. Great selection of collar stays for my husband, but they are stiff, as collar stays should be.
