I really wish I had ordered this 5 years ago. I've had issues with my storm door closing fully because of an air suction issue between it and the main door. It was using the normal top and bottom residential type closers, but they were not strong enough to overcome the suction. It would never latch all the way, and if the other door was open it would slam. This commercial closer has solved every one of these problems. There were some other reviewers saying that it makes the door too hard to push open, they must not have read the directions, there is a hex nut that you turn in order to adjust the spring tension, this makes the door easier to open if you adjust it. There are 4 hex nuts for adjustment, one side has S for sweep (how fast the door closes) L for Latch which is how fast it closes for the last couple inches to latch, on the opposite side it is the hex nut to adjust the spring tension (force needed to push the door open) and on top is the back check hex nut, which prevents it from swinging open too fast and hitting walls. These all have to be potentially adjusted to fit your specific door situation. I still can't believe my storm door actually shuts and latches every time now, it's like I'm living in a whole new world.

We purchased to replace an existing unit that wore out, so I was able to quickly install it. I have to admit however that if it were a new installation, I would still be trying to figure it out. The instructions were poorly written and the figures made little sense. Like a bunch of numbers and lines were dropped on a sheet of paper. The unit is well built and sturdy and I think I expect another 26 years of service with this Door Closer. I would recommend for someone needing a replacement with these dimensions. Allow extra time to decipher the instructions if it is a new install.
