Do I need to buy that separate?** A: This was a birthday gift for a 8 year old boy. He loved it as the rocks and fossils were easily identified and he loves his rocks. It is not a polishing device. So you do not need grit. I have seen where National Geographic does offer a small rock polishing kit. **Q: Are any of these toxic or radioactive?** A: None of the Rocks are Radioactive or Toxic but I don't recommend that you were to eat them. They wouldn't be put in to a kids collection if they were. Plus Radioactive Rocks glow with a black light. So they would be vary easy to spot. **Q: do you actually dig/uncover the fossils?** A: No, our NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC Rocks & Fossils Kit is not a dig kit. This is a beginners rock collection. **Q: Does this come with any doubles of rocks/stones? Or is it a large variety?** A: It comes with a couple duplicates as far as the little rocks go, but it has only one unique fossil. There is a large array of different stones.
