I paid $25 to buy this modem to save the $10 monthly fee cablevision wanted to rent theirs.On installation day, cable tech hooks up everything and gets to my modem. He calls it in and claims the phone jack won't work. It's a weak signal and he hears it internally trying to start but won't. Says as a refurbished unit it happens. Goes to his truck and gets my rental modem until I buy a new one. Tech leaves, I disconnect their rental modem and reinstall this modem and call it in to activate it. Tech on the phone walks me thru the process and within 5 minutes everything works 100%.On site tech tried to mislead me but I won out in the end. One time purchase saves me at least 21 1/2 months of a rental.

After a year it's now paid for itself twice over.
After a year and a half it's now paid for itself thrice over with not paying the cable company to rent it. Practically plug and play - optimum just had a pop up come up the first time i logged in.

Perfect replacement
Bought this to replace my rental modem from Optimum (cable vision / altice in North West Connecticut). Has a backup battery so your voice service still works with no power. Works well with my level of service (60/25)

Fluke?
I've been using the box for several months now, but recently I've been having unstable internet service and the best way to clear things up is to reboot the box (read: unplug the power and plug it back in). Maybe its not the modem and its something else but I can't figure out what. I'll get another cable modem soon and if that one has the same problems, bump this up 2 stars.
