I have gone through a lot of filters, with keeping three aquariums, and I really love this one! First of all, I like that it’s a low water filter. The intake vents are all at the bottom, so it’s perfect for aquariums that have lower water. I have a 10g snail tank and it just doesn’t need to be filled all the way up. I have a sponge filter on one side and decided to keep a small in tank filter on the opposite side. The one I had was too small, so that whenever enough water evaporated, it would start to sputter because the intake vents were above the water. (I use a metal mesh filter on top of my tanks.) This one is going to solve that problem. It’s got four strong auction cups, so I have installed it lower down on the glass and it stays there. It’s also got a removable adjustable arm with a hook for hanging on the side of the aquarium, but that hook didn’t fit over the edge of mine, but it really wasn’t needed anyway. The media compartment is huge. If you opt to use the included disposable filter, there is extra room to add your own media along with it. I opted to use all of my own media, as I was transferring the media from the old filter in order to maintain my cycle, and still had room to add more media. So it was super easy to set up! The pump is very strong. Even with all of the media I stuffed in to it, once I plugged it in, it had a nice output flow. And it’s quiet, as well. I’m so impressed. And I’m definitely impressed with the value for the money!

I got this for a five gallon betta tank. So far it has been great. It’s nearly SILENT, but you can see and feel the current otherwise you’d wonder if it was actually on. I like how it’s height adjustable. I keep the outflow lip just below water level. Out of the box it’s a bit strong. You’ll want to customize your media anyway if you know what you’re doing. This will also give you a more gentle flow for a betta. If you have shrimp and snails, first remove the inner casing and put some very thin foam around the pump area so it covers the intake slits. Replace the inner casing. Then cut a custom coarse foam block, place that in the main chamber, and add a bag of ceramic media or carbon on top. (You don’t need the flat cartridge at all throw that away) It’s been working great and the betta and plants are happy. Gentle enough for floating plants. The white color almost disappears. Much better looking than a black one.

Ordered this filter on May 26th and its July 27th. The filter is not strong enough to actually filter water, but I used it in a planted tank with one fish, so it just moved the water around. It was easy to install, plug it in and it turned on. Fast forward to a week ago the water looked very green. I replaced the cartridge and realized the pump was not working. It lasted 2months. I do not recommend this filter. I should have gone with my gut feeling when I saw how little water it could actually move. Filter pumps should not burn out in this amount of time. I still have a marineland 3gallon from the 90's that still works. It is cheap. Oh and the filter replacements are also of cheap quality, not enough carbon for a normal fish tank and the floss is super thin.

I got this for me and my grandma's fish tanks. We both have fine sand as our substrate, which is disturbed easily and makes our tanks look dirtier than it actually is. Our fishes poop a lot so that unsightly sediment is always visible on top of the substrate. After adding this simple filter to our tanks, all the debris cleared up and our tanks actually looks crystal clear. For the filter cartridges, you can purchase the ones designed for this filter, or you can do what I do and just insert a piece of mesh filter that you can buy in giant rolls. It catches all the debris and you can just replace them when they get too dirty. This filter is super easy to clean too. You just take out the components and wipe them down with a sponge. Access to the motor is super easy as well since there is a removable plastic that you can take off to maintain the motor. I use this along with a sponge filter and I would highly recommend this filter for tanks with fine substrate.

This is the first filter I've owned so I'm by no means experienced in quality but I've had it for over a month now in my 2 gallon tank and I think it's keeping things a lot cleaner. It is extremely quiet, so if that's your main focus this should definitely satisfy you there. I have a few shrimp, a Cory Cat, and a couple of snails in my tank and it does a decent job of keeping the tank clean, the shrimp might be saving it a bit idk. I would strongly advise buying filters along with your purchase tho. I feel like mine get gunked up pretty quick, but that could also just be my tank idk.

This is PERFECT for betta fish. Silent and flow does not blow the betta across the tank. I bought one to try it, REALLY like it, so I ordered some more for my other betta tanks. There is a TON of room in the media compartment to pack with media of your choosing. I put sponge on the bottom, filter floss in the middle, and a piece of course sponge on top of the filter floss. There is good flow, but does not bother the betta - he even swam inside the filter, lol. The price is right as well. Not sure how long it will last, but at that price? I'm ok if I have to buy a replacement every so often. Have been looking a long time for a good betta filter with roomy media compartment and low flow... for me and my planted tanks, this is perfect. I am running it fully submerged - I'm not concerned about breaking the water surface since I use air pumps with air stones in all my tanks. Sponge filters are really good for betta fish, but I have nano tanks, and sponge filters take up too much real estate in such small tanks. This filter is what I needed for my betta tanks. And also - the suction cups REALLY HOLD ON TIGHT. Such a simple thing but one where a lot of other filters miserably fail.

I bought this about 2 months ago now. As others have mentioned, the design is flawed and lets both filtered and unfiltered water through. That said, with some slight modifications it’s much better. I simply bought an aquarium sponge and cut it to size to cover the output. As an added my betta swam into it repeatedly, and the sponge stopped him from doing that. Why wouldn’t I just return it instead of buying and modifying a sponge to fit? This sucker is QUIET. I have my tank literally right next to my bed and it’s not a bother at all. I tried several whisper brand filters that were louder (although admittedly if I didn’t have the tank right next to my bed they would have been fine.) Some have mentioned noise. I noticed that when the unit was not filled with water that it was louder. So I can’t say how it would work in a turtle set up or similar. It seems to have actually gotten more quiet over time and is now practically silent in my 10 gallon. In my previous 5 gallon it did an okay job of filtering, but the current was a bit on the strong side. The flow is not adjustable. However in a 10 gallon with the sponge insert the current is low, but circulating, and since adding the sponge the filtration is great. I really wish it wasn’t white, as it does look as others have mentioned, cheap. I have a white tank I’ll be gifting out that I will pair it with, as it will match well. But with my current 10 (which has a black background which I love the look of) it’s really not aesthetically pleasing. All in all this filter is fine for the price, but if you don’t want your fish swimming into it like salmon up a river then it will require modification.

I purchased this for a 1.5 gallon tank for our classroom betta fish. It seems to work well and it's truly silent I had to double-check it was running when I first installed it!

I'm amazed at how quiet this filter is - I've used several different filters and this is by far the quietest, you genuinely can't hear it at all. It creates a nice gentle water flow, which is important in a small aquarium. It is quite chunky though so be prepared for it to take up some space and, as it's white, it does stand out in the tank.

This pump is working well in my one gallon betta tank. It is pretty much silent and water flows easily. I have found that adding charcoal and some foam clears the water better than the little insert provided. All in all, I'm happy with it.

The unit is no use in the UK due to the voltage being 110 not 240. Not sure why its for sale on amazon.co.uk

It is worth for the money.The quality is good,and noise level is almost nil.
