Ive tried a few different brands of biltong and made my own. I have to say that this wasn't my favorite. Believe me, i wanted to like it. The taste was sour and most of the bag was pulverized shreds. :( I did find that letting a bit airdry in a bowl made it a little more palatable, but honestly it'sjust sitting in my fridge still, where normally I'd have eaten the whole bag in a day or so. I will say that there was a decent amount for the price. The texture and cut were good on the whole pieces. Also, some of the bites left a weird coating and nasty taste on my tongue, like baking soda or something, but definitely an off taste.I had my own beef jerky store for several years, so I'm a connoisseur, but no snob.-----update 8/13/2019-------I contacted customer service via the email on the bag and got a response. They sent me a new bag and here is the email I sent them back. Very happy now.....The biltong showed up last Thursday! I'm sorry i kept forgetting to email you.It is delicious. It's night and day difference between the bag I got through Amazon originally.This bag was pristine and the taste is spot on. Every piece is a perfect slice, no shreds or fluff. Dark, rich brown color, not hay colored like the old bag. I really think that the other bag got very hot or something and out the taste off.Thank you so much. Now I know that if I am in the mood for biltong, Ayoba-yo is a good choice.Thanks for the customer service as well.....

I have recently adopted a low carb, high protein diet combined with weight training, so I'm always looking for new sources of protein. I use protein powder as little as possible, and eat more from natural sources.I have a brand of beef jerky I really like, but traditional beef jerkies have a lot of sugar (10g protein to 6g of sugar). Biltong, however, has more protein per oz (16g) and 0g of carbs or sugar. Simple ingredients, and nothing funky. So a big win on the nutrition front.That is great, but what won me over was the flavor. It has a nice hearty flavor, and has a little wetness to it that makes the texture nice to chew. I have tried another brand of biltong, but I found it too dry for my taste (kinda of like chewing on plastic). So another win on flavor and texture.Pricing is okay. Good beef jerky is not cheap, so you get what you pay for. I would like to buy in bulk, so bigger packages with better discounts would be a good offer I would jump on immediately.

It taste ok but not like the original

Not sure if I had an off batch OR if Ayoba needs to rethink the labeling, but if you are allergic to peppers (the plant found in salads and tacos, not the black spice on the table) I would NOT recommend this.I thought I had done my homework on this one and the ingredient list had pepper, which to be fair didn't say what KIND they meant. The smell of Tomato is strong when you open the package so half a piece later it was off you my mother who doesn't share my issues.Her comments : It has some real flavor, you can taste the beef, tomato and peppers, had a little heat after the third piece. The slices were nice and rather consistent for dried beef. She enjoyed it so it's not like a waste of money.

I have been lucky to visit South Africa a few times in my life. What is not lucky is coming home to the United States and craving biltong. Biltong is a magical, sugar-free, barely processed jerky and once you try it, you will never want to eat American beef jerky again. Biltong made in South Africa cannot be imported to the States, which is probably the saddest thing ever. I have searched for the perfect recreation of what I have eaten while road tripping through the Karoo, and I haven't found anything that can match it. Until I got this Ayoba-Yo Biltong delivered to my door yesterday. My search is over. Ayoba-Yo is a match to the biltong in my memories. The meat is sliced thin and perfect for snacking. It is fresh, doesn't contain any gross preservatives, and the flavors are the perfect traditional blend. Try this biltong and make the switch, you won't be disappointed!
