Violet Evergarden Official Design Works (Japanese Edition)

Tl;Dr- As a fan of the series, this book is an absolute must-have. 'Official Design Works' includes the expected reference sheets of all the main characters, but pleasantly surprised me with things like sketches of numerous locations and props, multiple pages of drawings of unnamed background characters, and contruction of various clothing articles and tools, among other things. Though I can't read any of the text, because the book is written entirely in Japanese, just looking through the almost 200 pages of beautifully-made drawings brings to light many minute details that went into contructing the world of the show that I haven't seen anywhere else. The presentation of the book itself is also nice on its own, with a flexible transparent cover protector that feels pleasantly sturdy. Overall, cannot review this book highly enough.

As a of fan Violet Evergarden this product contains a lot of details and art galleries when producing the greatest anime masterpiece. There are variety of behind the scenes to the character’s design and the background that put with much care and passion with the people working in Kyoto Animation, many of whom were freelancers. It’s sad that some of the original staff members working on this series were perished because of the tragic events during the arsenic attack at their studio in 2019. This art gallery will remain the legacy of the people who worked on this magnum opus and the memories of those around their generation along with our fans that stumbled upon the greatest piece of story writing in anime adaptation.

I loved the anime and wanted to buy the artbook. I may not understand Japanese but the pictures tell the story. So very happy I bought this book. Worth every penny 💖

This book is amazing to look and learn how Kyoto Animation makes their animations, the amount of time and patience to study architecture, props, characters, it’s amazing. My book did come with a small rip on the cover, but that is fine

The book detailed character design, tools design, scenes etc. You’ll be impressed with the details. If you’re a fan of violet evergarden, this book is absolutely worth it.

キャラクターの身長の比較が重要なのは理解しているね。 ヴァイオレットは成長している。身長が2つ記載されている。 年齢からすると成長途上か? 11,12,13話、外伝時はもう少し高いかも。 持ち道具も対比が書かれていて良かった。 メカについては常識にとらわれていないデザインだったんだね。 ヴァンダルの飛行機について知りたくて購入したけれど、 常識に捕らわれないデザインのため、より悩む結果になりました。 1. 諸元が無い。全長、全幅程度は嘘でもあると有難かった。 2. エンジンの設定。空冷星形12気筒。誤記か? このカウルで空冷? 下側に3気筒みえるけど。上側の冷却は? ロータリーエンジン (プロペラとシリンダーが一体)か? 推力式単排気はできないぞ。 単列で12気筒?死点が無いように奇数気筒数かその並列での偶数気筒数が一般的。 推力式単排気菅の10時から2時の間にある気筒の排気管の引き回しが??? 3. 補強の入り方から上翼がパラソル翼配置かと思ったが胴体と一体なんだね。 下翼はガル翼(95水偵のような)かと思ったが普通に上反角がありそうな付き方。 4. 翼のそりは、支柱から後ろはすぐに引っ掛けて壊すから無いほうがいいかな。 ほんとはループ状のガードでないと重量が有りすぎ。[カーチスジェニー(参照)] 主輪部のそりは後方部が無いため配慮しているようだね。 5. 後席は、いつもは郵便袋を放り込むからもっと簡易な折り畳みの網椅子程度と 思ったが今どきのチャイルドシート程度はありそう。

作中でそれほど目立って登場しない人々についても、その階級や職業を詳細に設定してあり、徹底した作品作りが窺えた。
