Product description Basil (basilicum) takes its name from the Greek word for king, possibly as a result of its undying popularity as a plant, an ingredient and as an aromatherapy oil. Basil is widely recognised for it's sweet, fragrant flavour and matching aroma. Basil aromatherapy oil however has a fragrance closer to that of thyme. The essential oil is extracted through the process of steam distillation using the leaves and flowering tops. Indications Store in a cool dry place away from sunlight. A very surprising scent! 👃🏻
I’ve grown my own basil in the past, so I’m familiar with a few different varieties. I was really surprised when I opened this bottle, because it smells nothing like I anticipated! The fragrance seems really familiar, but not like any basil plant I know of, it smells deep, medicinal & herby, without the traces of sweetness I’m familiar with, although not unpleasant at all. This bottle had me so confused! So much so, that I dug out a basil from an alternative, very highly regarded brand of essential oils, & guess what? It smelled exactly the same as this one did!If you’re expecting basil essential oil to smell exactly like the basil you’re used to chopping & throwing on your pizza or pasta dishes, then you’re going to be disappointed. That being said, this oil clearly smells how it should, it’s just a lot different than I was expecting, but it’s still a very welcome addition to my collection. I’ll be using it to make my own soaps, shampoo bars & bath products, just for its properties alone.Ultimately, once you recover from the shock of it not smelling exactly like you thought it would, you can be assured that everything is how it should be, & have the confidence that like every other Naissance product I’ve used, that it’s high quality at a reasonable price. I’m looking forward to blending this with some other oils from their brand to create some lovely earthy, woody & masculine fragrances for my homemade products.

Not basil oil
Doesn't smell like basil. Smells more of aniseed. Also seems to really sting my skin using a few drops in the bath too. Wouldn't buy again.
