Works really well and is secure. Installation included some very careful drilling on the fence post. The kids in the family I installed this for haven’t destroyed it yet so durability is good.

My existing vinyl gate latches both died, so I bought these as a replacement and they were right on the money! They used the same hole pattern, so they were easy to install by myself. They are more heavy duty than the original ones that came with my fence, so I'm hoping they last longer. The directions were easy to follow, as I had a right and left latch. The only disconcerting thing is that they were keyed identical as the ones I replaced. Overall, I am very pleased with them.

This gate latch is so amazing. I just bought another one. Now all of my friends are getting them as well. They are sturdy, look good, lock easily, and function great. They kids love to use them as well. Now my 8 year old opens the gate for me....Bonus.

Latch works well, the metal one is especially solid on aluminum fence gate. Only critique is that I would have liked if the provided template had a marking on where the latch would strike the lock mechanism. Installed the latch first (centered on gate edge) and marked center on the post and come to fine out the lock has to sit higher than what the template shows as center.

Solid gate lock, easy to install. I have three on my gas chamber and no one has escaped.

Maybe three stars, at most . . . but two stars seems more honestly my gut assess. First problem after apparently easy install was that, as the online video indicated, the experienced fence installers needed to re-orient the inside mechanism; for some reason, the lock seemed to work right after install, but they had to come back the next day when the lock wouldn't work for me. It is tricky to understand how--or maneuver--to turn the key to lock. The fence installer was a little better at it, but was not smooth sailing. Since then, I have to mess around a lot to make it work for the maybe five times max that I've used it. (fyi we've had boring temperate weather between March install and June now.) Hence, I find ways to avoid using the gate, like throwing branches over the gate, then going through the house to retrieve . . . or dropping yard waste into the green cart from the 18ft retaining wall down to the driveway . . . or dragging it through the house (almost always leaving a trail), instead of using my beautiful new gate with this amazingly problematic new Weatherables lock! :-P Yesterday's time-consuming fiasco prompted me to take time in my busy schedule to write this. The lock wouldn't lock, the key got stuck for a long while as I gently tried (I'm pretty much a little old lady, so not that strong) but determined to fix (hah!). Then the larger front black latch component got stuck flush in the up-position as though it were "permanently" stuck on something in the unit; I then used the duplicate key to try in the front lock out of desperation. After much messing around, altogether 20-30 minutes, the front key use seemed to partially release the black front latch, soon followed by the back key releasing from the lock. It took another 5-10 minutes to get the lock to lock, using the key in the rear lock. I guess I'm back to throwing branches over the gate, tossing down from the retaining wall, and dragging through the house kind of like Hansel leaving a trail of crumbs [cry emoji]. I try to give the benefit of a doubt, thought maybe I just got a one-off "lemon" unit. But the perimeter of the silver oval portion of the lock that the front key inserts into, when that oval perimeter juts out because the key is pulled out but doesn't immediately release from the key apperature, I notice worn-down metal, which I suspect should not be the case because: this unit is new, only installed three months ago, only yesterday and at install had a key ever inserted, temperate weather without temp extremes, and that portion of the front lock is normally flush and not exposed to much of anything (not even sun) besides the latch unit housing it. I will say the two sets of two silver keys on key rings are beautiful, look very high quality! Too bad the double-sided lock is so terrible! [cry emoji] I have to wonder if maybe the manufacturing of this unit, like so many other products, has been cutting corners to cut costs, as so many other products in recent years due to multiple challenges, most probably out of the mfr's control. But it leaves me with a defective product, which is a significant problem, esp if I have to hire expensive contractors to fix it. Hopefully, this is an authentic product, but I try to make sure I buy from a trusted seller, even via Amazon. fyi: I had two fantastic fence contractors who were familiar with this 2-sided Weatherables Keystone key-lockable gate latch install for my CalFire aluminum slat Zone 0 replacement of contiguous wood fence. I didn't use the standard plastic Lokkatch that usually comes with the gate because I heard the squirrels might decide to gnaw on it (I've had naughty squirrels in my yard), plus I've heard users say their Lokkatch is just ok . . . plus metal is non-flammable). Perhaps that was a mistake. (I'd go take a better photo of the issue, but I'm afraid I'm going to have problems getting the key out again or the latch getting stuck in the up-position again so I can't keep the gate closed, etc!)

We followed the instructions carefully and are very pleased with this latch. Be careful drilling the 5/8 hole... try to get it straight, although there is some allowance in the design. Took about 3 hours to install.

Bought this gate latch as I wanted to be able to rekey it in the future and match my main key for my rental. I purchased with the intention of the latch auto locking when the gate closed as I can’t rely on tenants taking the time to use the key to lock it. Unfortunately it seems that I have purchased the wrong latch as this one auto latches but not auto locks meaning you have to use the key to lock it like you would a door lock. So unfortunately I have paid wayyyyyyyy too much for something that the only advantage is that it can match my house key. I would gladly sacrifice that for the over $100 I would save by buying one off the shelf at the local hardware store. Once again unfortunately because I purchased this last year I am unable to return it. Oh and this did not come with the mentioned template so if I do ever use this I’ll have to do my best to line things up. Other than that it is a solid well built latch. I could see people not being interested in auto locking so this would be perfect for them but maybe better product description or in the future make this so it could do either. This was a big costing mistake on my part.
