Can this be used with off brand sublimation inks, papers and mugs?

Yes. Check sizes and shapes before using. The press will hold 12-15 oz. mugs

I would like to sublimation tumblers. What's the maximum height that can hold in the mug press?

Kyesha, it is only the height of a mug. Having said that, some of the Cricut gurus have developed a two-step heating to the tumblers. Google making a tumbler with a Cricut mug press to find how they are doing it.

400 degrees ... yet the outside of it stays cool to touch heat radiates from the top opening but that seems to be it the handle of the mug stays cool enough to touch but the mug itself is very hot and needs to cool for about 15 minutes.

My Cricut mug i recieved as a gift which is bougt here is emitting smoke? Is that normal or not?
