Plant Description Summer Sunset like Pink Lemonade and Top Hat are geared to Homeowners for their novel appeal and aesthetic appeal. Summer Sunset is unique in that it has beautiful semi-glossy dark green leaf. The key characteristic to Summer Sunset is it’s berry color change from yellow-green, to orange-red, to red to red-purple and finally deep blue to black when ripe. The berries will remain tart until fully ripe when they are a deep purple black color. The berries are medium in size and ripening around the same time as other rabbiteye varieties. How to Grow Most all edible plants grow well in Full Sun but a little shade won’t hurt. Blueberry Plants need to be planted in acidic soil/low pH 5.5-6.4. I recommend 60%-80% Pine Mulch/20-40% Peat. As your plant gets bigger you can change the ratio to more Pine Mulch up to 100%. I substitute Peat with Happy Frog Potting Soil. Keep your soil moist and when it is about dried out water again. It may be better to grow your plants in 4 inch to 1 gallon container for several months until plants are larger before re-potting or planting. I recommend an organic regiment with life beneficials, fertilizer, organic fungicide and pest control. May need to cover for frost and bird net is recommend when plants are older.
