As soon as I plug it in it says replace alarm…
Total waste of time.

Works fine!
Supposed to have a 10-year battery. We are in year #1.

False Alarms
I got these smoke detectors because I wanted to stop replacing batteries twice a year. Instead, the whole family has been woken up multiple times due to false alarms. Kidde admitted that people were reporting more false alarms and replaced them multiple times. After about the 4th or 5th false alarm, I'm just throwing them out and getting a different brand.

Getting false alarms
We have had this installed for a few weeks now and have already had 4 or 5 false alarms--NOT when cooking, showering, etc., but including in the middle of the night for no apparent reason.

Like the bug screen but has one significant flaw
I just installed this alarm so can't speak for how it works over time. The primary reason I chose this model is because it has a bug screen. We get a couple false alarms a year due to bugs or spiders crawling into the alarm (I know this because after the last few false alarms I have put the alarm in a sealed zip loc bag and each time found a bug in the bag the next day). The mesh on the screen is may be too large to keep out small bugs but seems it should help to some degree. The design flaw is that to the install the unit you will need more space in the electrical box that the alarm is mounted to than most other alarms. Every other alarm that I've installed (4-5 other Kidde models) have a flat back. The back of this alarm however isn't. The center part of the back protrudes into the electrical box by about 3/4" or maybe a bit more. Additionally, rather than having the plug receptacle built into the back, this one has another set of wires coming out of the unit with a receptacle at the end of the wires -- which also takes more space in the electrical box. All this means that I can't use this alarm in most of our alarm locations. I was only able to install it as the last alarm on the circuit (there was more room in the box because are only wires coming, not both coming in and going out).If you have larger electrical boxes than I do, maybe this will work for you. If so, and you also have false alarms from bugs, this alarm could be a great choice.

False Alarms
Do not install unless you want to be constantly awoken in the middle of the night with false alarms!

Total garbage
My 83 year old mother had these installed because they have 10 year batteries to avoid having to change batteries. A year later here we are with beeping. Total garbage. Do not buy.
