How do I prevent getting paint on my tires when I paint the rims?

Put Vaseline on the sidewalls before you paint. After the paint is dry just use soap and warm water to rinse off the Vaseline.

I've had it on my rims for the entire summer. It doesn't chip or peel as some have suggested here. The key is preparation, you've got to start off with a completely clean surface. Keep in mind that it's a lacquer paint and it needs to be buffed and compounded occasionally. My finish went "flat" after less than a month so I put a buffing wheel on my drill to buff it out and bring back the shine. This is not a maintenance-free finish like a clear coat

Should I put a clear coat over finished product if on a car

It might last a bit longer with proper sanding and a clear coat. I used it on headlight trim of a Wrangler. Worked well enough as it was for that.

Can two cans paint over 5pcs of 28inch wheels?

Don't use this product, it sucks. Doesn't even come out close to the pic on the can. Spend the money and get them PVD coated. If you want great looking black chrome.
