... the big and little pierogi makers to avoid the tedious hand rolling involved with Chinese dumplings
I purchased both the big and little pierogi makers to avoid the tedious hand rolling involved with Chinese dumplings. The smallest (this one) is a little too small for my preferences, where the largest is a little too big for my preferences. Of course, my preferences were established surrounding making the perfect Chinese dumpling, so I did not reflect this in my rating.I purchased a small spray bottle, to give the dough a quick spritz to assist in sealing the top and bottom dough together. The maker is really easy to use. I found that after laying the first sheet of dough, I needed to press into the depression with a spoon to aid in the stretching of the dough to ensure a good amount of filling (and to prevent seepage of stuffing to the dough which weakens the seal). Further, unless the dough is thicker (more than 3mm) the seal will be weak. I wanted the dough to be thin, which made for tastier dumplings. I made several hundred with the maker and only a handful of each batch would break during cooking.Hope this helps!

Pierogi keep opening up when you boil them
I was really excited about this produdt as I read using pierogi maker can really save you some time, and it did a little, but the pierogi opened up when I boiled them. The reason why, I think, is because the space between each half a circle is super tiny and so when you apply the second layer of dough on top of the filling, it doesn't allow for the pierogi to be completely sealed. Even when I pintched each individual one with my fingers, they still opened up, and at that point what's the point of buying a pierogi maker if you have to pinch them individually anyways. I still use it, but instead of boiling them for as much as they should be, I just keep them in the boiling water for about two minutes and when I notice that they're staring to open, I throw them in the pan and fry them.

Pierogi no longer a daunting process!
Sure the pierogi come out small but it is very easy to work with. I made two platefuls of pierogi for a dinner in less than half the time it took me to make the same amount for a Xmas party. Whaaat?! I know!Ingredients like potato are easier than sauerkraut because the smaller particle don’t get in the way of krimping. I tried to be careful, even so, 4 of the 24 sauerkraut pierogi broke. Next time I might put the sauerkraut in for a few short pulses in the processor to break it up.Regardless, I’m very happy with the product. A serious time saver.

I absolutely love this mold
I absolutely love this mold! I used it to make pelmeni which are a bit differently shaped and they turned out beautiful uniform size and shape and were a lot quicker to make than if I were to just cut out circles out of dough and do it that way. I made a simple dough using water, flour, a bit of oil and mayonaise and the filling was half and half ground turkey and ground beef along with grated onion and salt and pepper. After the half moon shapes were formed I just took the ends and overlapping them, pinched them together to make the traditional pelmeni shape.

This is a good, well made product
This is a good, well made product. I appreciated the ability to make the pierogi in batch sizes of this quantity. The edges are straight (not crimped) so some broke when assembing and others broke when boiling/pan searing... but for the most part they came out pretty good.Overall I am glad to have purchased this.

Good pierogi maker
Not perfect, but not so bad. For sure you can make pierogi faster. They are smaller than typical Polish pierogi.
