Not the tall tale
Honestly my bad for thinking this would be more the tall tale version than who the actual Davy Crockett was. Even then though its boring and wordy for a 1st grader. I think my 3rd grader would retain more from this for sure. My 1st grader is a great reader and had no trouble there, it's just boring....

Great children's history book on Davy Crockett
I was nervous about how Davy Crockett would be portrayed to children, but was pleasantly surprised when I read the book. The author combines fact and fiction in his story of this great American, but makes sure the reader knows the difference. The artistic images are well done also. Some of the art work in other books is distasteful and insulting to Davy's memory. I'm buying more of this book to share with children who are not learning this in school.
