For other coffee lovers, being able to quickly insert a pre-packaged, single portion pack into their coffeemaker and enjoy a piping hot cup in a few minutes is a match made in heaven. The FlexBrew Single-Serve Coffeemaker offers the added convenience factor of a pack holder, which allows quick instant brewing in less time than an in-store café experience. Simply insert the K-Cup pack and push the lever down – that's it. Brewing with Ground Coffee Pre-packaged coffee isn't for everyone or every palate. The FlexBrew Single-Serve Coffeemaker caters to coffee aficionados by featuring a steel mesh scoop filter that holds a variety of fresh-tasting ground coffee. You can grind your own coffee beans to the medium-grind setting or save time and purchase pre-ground coffee. Brands such as Folders, Maxwell House, Dunkin' Donuts, and Starbucks are recommended because they are medium-grind coffees. Note: Coffee that is ground too finely will cause an overflow. If you are unsure about the coarseness of your coffee, check with your coffee manufacturer.Alternative Options to Coffee Not a coffee drinker or prefer other varieties of hot beverages? The FlexBrew Single-Serve Coffeemaker, unlike home-brewers that solely brew their own type of coffee, allows for a variety of tea pods, including herbal, chai, white, green, black and flavorful blends. Measuring Portions Appropriately Not sure how much coffee grinds to add when brewing your next cup? No worries, the unit comes equipped with a brew basket, marked with a 2- tablespoon MAX line for exact measuring, so there's no overspilling. For busier schedules, use the K-Cup pack holder, which is already portioned for single servings.About Homemade BrewingDid you know that 86 percent of coffee drinkers still brew most of their java at home? With more and more Americans picking up the coffee habit, staying awake longer, and cutting back to save money, coffeemakers are now being designed to be more feasible and economical for the home budget and lifestyle. *Source: 2012, National Coffee Association of USA TIPS & CARE The FlexBrew Single-Serve Coffeemaker performs best with medium-grind coffee; coffee that is too finely ground may affect the extraction time or filtering process. Keep ground coffee below MAX fill line and do not use more than 10 ounces (410 ml) of water. When using the K-Cup pack holder, press down on the edge of the pack until the pack clicks into place and the hole is punched in the bottom – do not remove foil. Allow two minutes to cool in-between brews. The brew basket and K-Cup pack holder should be rinsed after every use. Removable parts, such as the K-Cup Pack Holder, Handle and Lock, drip tray, cup rest and basket itself, are all dishwasher safe. For trouble-free maintenance, the FlexBrew Single-Serve Coffeemaker should be cleaned internally once a month, by pouring ½ cup plain white vinegar and ½ cup cold water into the water reservoir, brewing and then running 2-3 cycles of cold tap water before making the next round of coffee. K-Cup pack is a registered trademark of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc.

AMENDED REVIEW! This POS now resides in the trash can!
Adequate and flexible. Brews a very nice cup of coffee. But(!) it's a bit complicated. Overly gimicky. Over engineered. Requires some tinkering to function right. I am still looking for the EASY, FLEXIBLE, CLEVER design that uses either K-cups or ground coffee. I know it's out there,,, this isn't it.AMENDED REVIEW... (Six weeks after original review) This thing is an absolute POS! After numerous issues, ie. leak, failure to puncture K-cup, inexplicable sounds, STEAM SCALD upon handling. I gave this thing the old heave ho! JUNK, JUNK, JUNK!!! When I contacted Customer Service, they offered to send me a new replacement for more shipping cost than I paid for this crapper in the first place! They offered to "upgrade" to the next higher model for an additional $50 plus $40 shipping! HOW ABSURD!!I told Customer Service that I am pitching the unit and that they have lost a customer!I gave up and bought a Keureg. Should have done this in the first place!....Live and learn! DON'T BUY THIS POS.

K-Cup Lovers Rejoice!
The K-cup is great and most of us love the fresh-brewed, never stale, taste of coffee without the hassle, mess, or cleanup ... BUT ... those K-cup machines are Sooooooo expensive! Until Now! Rejoice ... Hamilton Beach has figured out how to provide K-cup convenience without the high cost of that propitiatory machine, and has even thrown in some cool optional features like the ability to use regular ground coffee, and it will even accept those single-cup coffee pods like the ones hotel-motels use, all in a machine that costs less than half of that other machine. Wow! Mine works great, I've used all three methods of brewing coffee with this machine and they all work flawlessly. I now have the luxury of one in my office with enough money left over to buy those expensive K-cups without breaking the bank. Get one of these machines, have a cup of coffee, and relax, you deserve a break today ... Thanks Hamilton Beach!

Good for the office
I got this for myself for Christmas because I needed something in which to brew my own coffee in my own office. We have office coffee, but by the time I go back for a 2nd cup the pot is empty and it too late in the morning to justify brewing another pot. This is a quite nice size. It doesn't take up much space on my desk. The black and stainless design is nice and stylish.I think it brews a nice cup of coffee. I use the Maxwell House and Caribou K-Cups and have no problems with leaking grounds. Mine came with a removable filter, which I assume is for more finely ground coffee. I tried it with some of the Caribou French roast we that we use for our office coffee, and it brewed a nice cup. There was a little sludge in the bottom of the cup, but no grounds, so it wasn't a big deal.I would have given this 5 stars, but I was disappointed by the water capacity. I knew it was only 8-10 cups when I ordered it, but that seemed larger in my head than it was in reality. I did work around that by simply filling my Tervis with water every morning and pouring it, but a larger reservior would be nice. Also, there's a flap on the bottom of the insert that's a little too sensitive and it pops down when I push the bar down. Not the end of the world, but kind of a pain.Overall I would recommend this coffee maker if you're looking for something that is small and givew you brewing options and don't mind a smaller cup.

Leaking Problem Solved!
I have had this machine 3 months now and it is great. On the second day I had it, I discovered why so many people say it leaks or sprays hot water all over. I had purchased a sample pack with many different brands of coffee in it. When I tried to brew my first K-cup from the "Martinus" brand, it leaked everywhere. Upon inspecting the K-cup after the spill, I discovered that this particular brand has not only the foil top on it, it also has a plastic coating over that. The plastic is much more difficult to puncture so, although it looked like the machine had punctured it, it had really not. What I now do when I use that brand is, load the K-cup, press down to puncture (which doesn't go all the way through), lift up on the "Press Down" handle and slide it back out, then I use a small sharp knife to finish puncturing through the plastic, re-insert everything, press down, and it is now ready to brew. This sounds like a lot, but it's really just an extra 20-30 seconds. Doing this, I have never had another leak (with the exception of user error by forgetting to "Press Down").

OK Maker -- Not as Expected
This is the first "K-cup" coffee maker my wife and I have used, so I can't compare it to the Keurig brand. It is a good size unit that dispenses the right temp water for brewing. However, we use an 8 oz. measuring cup to pour water in the tank since a standard coffee cup drips water all over. Then during the final seconds of the brew, water drips from the top of the unit down the sides and onto the countertop even when only pouring in 7 oz. It isn't much, but aggrevating. The manual mentions that too much water in the tank could cause the drip, but not even using the maximum of 8 oz. still causes the drip -- which is unacceptable. We have a 4 cup Mr. Coffee maker (bought for about $15), but thought this unit would be ideal for brewing only one cup of coffee or hot water for tea or hot chocolate. The price is right compared to a Keurig -- but not the expected performance. The best feature is being able to use regular coffee, which is why we bought this unit.UPDATE of June 2013We've put the unit up. Just don't care for its performance and quality of brew. The Mr. Coffee Maker mentioned above is more than adequate for our needs. I think this device and other similar Keurig clones will be a fad. Possibly the Keurig is the way to go for this type of machine -- but not for us.

Stay away from this product if you use K-cups
Ordered this for a Christmas present as a camping coffee maker - the idea was great - being able to brew normal coffee as well as k-cups.This is a terrible product. It literally melts a k-cup into a form that is unrecognizable once it is brewed - I can only imagine how much plastic must end up in the actual beverage.Look at my review history - I always give great reviews to great products - this product is TERRIBLE. save your money - buy something else.

it works pretty well but after few weeks the water doesn't come ...
In the begining, it works pretty well but after few weeks the water doesn't come out anymore. I am very upset because I offered to a friend who is a pratical person drinking a lot of coffee a day.We try to open and clean the pipe but it still didn't work. So I just retrun it before the end of warranty and ask for refund.I do not recommand this coffee maker.

Just plain but perfect!
I love this coffee maker. It allows me all of the benefits of whatever coffee I feel like having. It allows K-cups, pods or regular grind coffees so there is quite a choice. The only issue, it just makes a 10oz cup maximum but if I wanted more could have purchased a different maker.I had searched .com and found this similar maker in the states for the same price in U.S. dollars and would have had to pay for shipping & duty etc. As I live on the west coast of Canada the cost of this single serve worked out to be less.Just plain but perfect!!

Very good coffeemaker with minor inconveniences
Like the ability to use the k-cups for special coffees and the filter basket for my regular gound coffee. Since it only uses 600 watts to brew, it will be used in our RV without much drain on the battery. You have to be careful when filling the water resevoir. It needs to be filled before inserting the coffee basket. Otherwise the water does not flow into the resevoir readily. The temperature for the cup is very good and all the water is used so the reservoir is emptied. You do need to wait before brewing another cup which can be frustrating for the next person.
