Far from deterring grackles!
The media could not be loaded. Too much seed falls to the ground. The finch takes one seed from the hopper and 2-3 fall on the ground. I'm using sunflower hearts. Grackles soon figured out that by making a hard landing or a quick departure shakes the sunflower hearts out of the cage and onto the lip at the very bottom of the feeder or the ground. I would not recommend this birdfeeder!

Needs perches and only the small birds use it
Definitely keeps the squirrels out however chipmunks find their way in. Also it needs perches on outside for the birds to sit on. The bird are apprehensive about sticking their heads in by just hanging onto the side. At present I am using coat hangers to givethem some to sit on. The chipmunks cheeks get full and good chance they will get their head stuck 😬 only the small birds use it...such as chickadees as they can get rt into it. Bigger birds cannot get in. DEFINETLY KEEPS OUT ALL SQUIRRELS!!!

Flawed
The outside grid to block large birds was good unfortunately the inside mesh was only good for catching larger seeds small fall through

The squirrels have figured out they can just shake it and the seed will fall out. It's also come unscrewed and fallen off several times but I think that a racoon has been helping that along.

Little birds like it, flommuxed the starlings - so far
Really admire this classic solution using “ found” parts. It’s been up a couple of hours and the little guys are figuring it out. Flummoxed the starlings so far. Our local genius squirrel has been studying it from afar. No attempts yet

Grackle and all bird proof
I got this with high hopes. It’s expensive. I slurped and bought it. The minute i hung it up-i questioned my decision. I now have zero birds eating from it. zero. the exact same amount is in the feeder since day one. I tried changing the seed. still no birds. all my birds left. no one could get the seed out so they left. expensive bird deterrent. i’m not sure i can send back since it’s used for over a week but i sure want to

This feeder is definitely working. When I received this I was chagrined to see the raw materials and how it was put together...although effective and I appreciate, it was priced too high.

I wish it was the pretty copper color finish. The stainless steel is so industrial it looks like R2D2 for birds.
