NILES AUDIO VCS100R High Power Stereo Volume Control - White

Little pricey.. but as they say you get what you pay for. Funny that the only tool you need to actually put the wires (already stripped properly) is your finger nail. The 2 wire banks (1 amp(source), 1 speakers(destination have 4 slots each (total of 8 slots), each slot has a little lever you pull open, it locks in the open position, insert the wire and push the lever back, it snaps back thus pinching the wire and establishing connection.Just a side note, I wouldn't recommend anything more than 16AWG, the slots where the wires go are about 16AWG big, don't think you could get a 14AWG in there cleanly.This is NICE. Comes with 2 face-plates, so you can pick what look you want. Unit is pretty heavy, which usually means well built! No popping or anything goofy, nice clean volume control. Another thing I like is it automatically adjusts for impedance matching, so no jumper settings.I used a single gang low voltage bracket to mount this with. You could probably use a normal blue elec re-modelers box but I imagine it would be a tight fit.THIS IS NOT INTENDED FOR EXTERIOR(OUTSIDE) INSTALLS. THIS IS RATED FOR INTERIOR INSTALLS ONLY!!!

Good product for the price

I bought several pairs of these as I wired up speakers throughout our house and patio. The ones I installed on the inside of the house are still going strong after a couple years. The 3 one I installed outside in our covered patio. It worked well for sometime but then one channel just up and quit. It is recessed on a wall that provides shelter from any outside elements so it was not damaged from rain or other.Good for inside - but choose another model for patios

This is a high quality component that I would recommend. The volume is smooth and the clicks are a nice feature. Easy to install. One issue is it is a big unit to fit into a single gang mount with the speaker cables. Need to be careful pushing all that in. I love the Niles speaker cable connectors.

It's great

I bought this Volume controller, and it was great for a few months... then it died.I tried contacting support. Initially I was responded to ... I even was asked for my address. Then I got radio silence from support for a few weeks.Not sure what's going on, I thought Niles support was good --- I guess I was wrong.--- UPDATE ---Instead of relying on EMAIL based support, which went unanswered, I made a phone call, and I was greeted warmly and quickly.They didn't pay shipping for the RMA, but at least I got one relatively painlessly.New unit should be here shortly ... and before it broke, the volume controller was amazing, so switching my 1 start up to a 3 star

The build quality is excellent (item is quite heavy) and it clicks to different volume levels (which appear to connect to different taps on the built in transformer looking thing). Avoids any scratchy sounds you get on the potentiometer type volume controls.Includes two wall plates to match either decorator or standard outlet cover styles.

I agree with other people who left their feedback. I am very happy with this product. It is high quality, and it solved my issue with dual speaker zones being either too loud or not loud enough. Now I can customize the volume in both zones with no loss of sound quality.
