Find Your Rhythm
First, a big thank you to BookSneeze on behalf of Zondervan for the complimentary copy of God in My Everything in exchange for a review. In today's culture it is all too easy to find ourselves caught up in the rat race, finding we are growing weary and mindlessly going at it day after day. Author and pastor, Ken Shigematsu guides the reader to find their rule, their rhythm and allow God into everything. God in My Everything: How an Ancient Rhythm Helps Busy People Enjoy God is a book that will really help create a vision where life becomes worship and God is found everywhere. Rather than allowing daily work dictate chaos, we can choose to be intentional and set the pace for ourselves. Shigematsu creates a trellis to demonstrate the various support bars and crossbeams that anchor us into God, into our ground. Sabbath, prayer and sacred reading allow us to establish roots firmly into Christ. It is from this firm foundation we build up and out allowing our vines to flourish. Relations, restoration and reaching out subsequently follow. He wisely plants a holistic approach to a healthy rule of life. When one factor is neglected slowly the trellis weakens giving way to further decay. How can we abide in Christ if our vine does not have the necessary support? There are plenty of books that attempt to assist readers to find balance. There are quite a few good ones. However, most do not incorporate the various facets of life as Shigematsu does. He addresses it all; there isn't a facet I can think of that this book does not cover. In each chapter many suggestions are advised and dissected to help the reader establish their own rhythm. The lovely thing is they don't all have to be used to find balance. You may realize your life is out of balance in one aspect and not another. Little by little we can cultivate a life that flourishes with and in Christ. I found God in My Everything to be a very relaxing read. Shigematsu's writing exudes a balance of gentleness, peace and sound doctrine. Although, each chapter stands alone, there is a cohesiveness that binds them together into a beautiful whole. As I read from day to day, I realized how some of his suggestions and overall awareness of God in my life began to seep into my life in an organic manner. These pages would be well-suited for anyone wanting to slow down and figure out how to lead a life that incorporates God. All too often God is reserved for Sunday mornings. God wants to walk with you through it all and be your everything.

Human Doing or Human Being
This is a book that will change my life, I absolutely love it. It was impossible for me to put it down once I started to read it! It is my desire to lead a God centered life, not necessarily a balanced life. If you have a busy life and are looking for God to be more present in your day, this book is for you! You will learn of ancient disciplines, and how they can be effectively applied to our lives today, turning chaos into order, and stress into peace. You will learn how to establish a plan for your life, to establish priorities, to be in the ever presence of God, to achieve greater serenity and joy. I love the example of Daniels life, how he was forbidden to pray to God, that in doing so he was risking his life, but it was his very discipline that saved him and blessed him. I am grateful for this book; it has helped me to examine my priorities so that I can experience “God in my Everything”. Enjoy! - Russ Fox

This book explains very well to broader audience.
This book vividly revived my memories of Tenth Avenue Church in Vancouver, Canada. I went to the church every Sunday to hear Pastor Ken’s sermons that attracted people from various backgrounds such as wealthy Vancouverites, drug addicts, and immigrants from all over the world. I think this book well reflects his approach to this kind of audience. From new Christians from non-Christian family backgrounds to professors at a nearby seminary, Pastor Ken’s way of explaining the gospel is fun, amusing, yet deep and straightforward to the core of the gospel, Jesus’ love and redemption for our sins. As I read this book while living on the East Coast, I somewhat sensed the breeze of the West Coast in his writing. However, Pastor Ken’s message is universal, and I can think of some friends and family who would benefit from this book. Therefore, I recommend this book to anyone looking for a Christian book with broader perspectives applicable to our diverse daily lives.

God in My Everything
The title of the book drew me in as a believer in Jesus Christ who desires to have God in my everything. I appreciated the chapter on the Sabbath to ponder more deeply how I spend my Sunday's. Biblically we have rest always if we are in Christ so not to make it a legalistic rule but to take the time to rest, read and be more intentional about the one day of the week that our schedule naturally tends to slow down. My struggle with the book were examples of people's lives who are not in Christ. I understand there is much we can learn but as a born again believer I do not look to the mystics as an example of how to worship. I felt I had to read the book with much discernment (as any book but a little more on this one with examples of Monks, Richard Foster and Dallas Willard being referred to). I did appreciate the last chapter with ways different people in various stages of their lives put the principles Ken shared into practice.I was given a copy of this book from Zondervan and Cross Focused Reviews to give an unbiased review.

Well worth reading
This is a book I'll return to again and again. I've read it through quickly and have underlined so much of it. Now I want to go through it a second time to put it into practice. There is so much food for thought. It is easily one of the best books I've read and has come as an answer to prayer when I was asking God what He wants for my life.

What latticework supports your soul?
Ken offers a compelling way to reshape your life and get going on the path of discipleship. Frameworks support growth, like a vine crawling up a lattice. What is the latticework in your life? What shape is your framework encouraging your soul to take as it grows?Clear and helpful. Encouraging and grounded. I am so glad God called this 7-11 Japanese businessman to new horizons of rich life with Jesus!

The KKet to ordering your life
Ken handles in a very accessible way the foundations of the organisation a Rule of Life in God dealing with the practicalities of daily routines and family life through to practical pointers on prayer and life balance, an excellant read.

not an easy read
Bought to use in a church study group. Does promote discussion but not an easy read. Difficult to marry with modern life commitments.
