Best book for latinas
My 5 year old daughter LOVED this book so much. She could relate to the protagonist character’s non-conforming personality. Highly recommend for Latina girls everywhere!

Good Concise Fun For All
This book deals with mixed race children and not "matching" (looking or acting). We got it for my children who are mixed race. Of I'm happy with a book that can playfully address this but what I like most is that it validates being unique beyond race. The narrative of liking different food combinations, creative dress, imaginative play, etc are all especially great and something I think is very important.

Not matching is great!
As a hyphenated family ourselves that laugh at the things we come up with that "don't match" this book was a real hit!! Our Bengali-Scandinavian-American family may not speak Spanish like Marisol, but we don't match and we love it! It is a delightful book about being your own person and being true to yourself, which is important for everyone. I think this book will take on more meaning as our 3 year old grows, but for now, we all love reading it.

A great book showing it's ok to be a bit different
Marisol is a Scottish-Peruvian girl who is a bit different to all the kids in her school. This is why she feels she doesn't match. Along this story she learns to appreciate those cultural differences that make her so special. This book will be a great addition to bilingual families and/or families from different cultures. The first time I read this to my child I almost cried. Great book.

A wonderful book on numerous levels
My daughters love this book! Marisol, the main character, is fun, spunky and easy to relate to. Her dilemma, being teased and corrected for her unique style, is pertinent for preschool and early elementary kids. The narrative arc works well. The book is not preachy nor does it take the criticism from others so far that it would make sensitive souls or super young children uncomfortable. It's very well written and the prose has a great child-like voice. And, on top of all this, the story is written in both English and Spanish. My daughter had been reluctant to engage with my attempts at introducing foreign languages until we started reading this book. She now loves for me to read it in both languages. Go Marisol!

Buy for Your Classroom!
I purchased this book to read to my first grade class because the class is a rainbow of beautiful faces from all over the world. Mexico, Togo, Ethiopia, Hawaii, the Philippines, Samoa, Vietnam, even Chicago! Several students are multiethnic and/or multiracial. I think this will be the perfect text to add to our kindness conversation because it teaches not only to be kind to others, but also to yourself.

Wonderful book!
I love so much about this book. It's well written in Spanish and English with a story that many kids can relate to. The pictures are beautiful. It features a family that is underrepresented in children's literature. The dual language reinforces for my kids that not everyone speaks the same language while exposing them to Spanish. I love it so much I bought it for a friend's daughter for her birthday and it soon became a big hit at their house too. Highly, highly recommend!

A very useful book about bilingual children and for bilingual ones!!!!!!
Marisol is a bilingual girl that expresses in this book her feeling about this kind of “diversity” if bilingualism can be considered it!Very interesting to teach to bilingual children that being a bit different doesn’t mean being wrong but that everybody has to be happy being itself!!!!
