Joel Sternfeld: On This Site

This book horrifyingly delivers on what it promises--just be reminded that it's from the mid-90s, so, in a way it's a period piece now, which adds additional interest.

I bought this book when it was initially published, it was quite some time ago. It is still one of my favorites, which is clearly visible by the condition it is in now. The images of places seem mundane but suddenly turn to haunting, after learning the history of what occurred there. Recommended.

I saw his exhibition in Essen (Germany) at the Folkwang museum and decided to buy the book. The emptiness and cleanness of the pictures compared to violence which happened on that spot is chilling. When you get the possibility buy it.

Un libro de visionado obligado, tanto por las fotografías como por los textos que rodean cada una de las imágenes. Aunque trata historias oscuras y turbias, cuesta creer que todo haya ocurrido dentro de estos entornos tan placidos y pintorescos. Un gran libro.

Interesting work albeit a bit creepy to go back to crime scenes. Sternfeld's work is all interesting and shows great thought and attention to detail.
