FIRST put the Command strip on the plastic hook and trim excess, then put the light string on it (I put the hook right before the light and that kept them very tight and unable to move in the wind), and LASTLY stick it to the spot you want it in. I did this all the way along my patio and now from the front I don't have to look at the light cord and they don't move. I cut off the excess sticky part so that it would look clean once I realized that the pull strip doesn't work if I want to get them off anyways (you can easily move them if you mess up at first but after a few hours they stuck to that metal hard and I had to use scissors pry the ones I messed up on off).
