What a treasure this book is! Everything you wanted to know about the history of the restaurantswho have been mainstays in the world of New York. Once I began reading this book, I could notput it down. How many times I have dined in many of these restaurants and never knew theamazing history. Many date back to Revolutionary times. - others to the roaring 20's andmany were the gift of ethnic groups who emigrated into New York in the 19th and 20thCenturies. Buy this book and learn many wonderful facts while you enjoy the culinary delightsproduced by these restaurants.

A fantastic, well-researched and entertaining book that celebrates the singular glories of New York's bars and restaurants. As a native New Yorker, it's painful to watch proven and loved historic NYC restaurants and bars close down every single year. I'm grateful for these stories of the wonderful places that still survive and thrive. Congrats to author Laura Brienza for this achievement. Anyone and everyone that loves New York should have this book on their short list.

Bought this as a hostess gift for a friend who moved to the Hudson Valley, my childhood stomping grounds. Enjoyed going through the various entries. I need to return for another visit to try a few of these suggestions.
