Finally Waking Up Without Hating My Alarm
The Hatch has seriously changed how I sleep and wake up. It looks really nice on my nightstand - the soft putty color is calm and kind of classy, not like some techy gadget taking over the room. The light it gives off at night is gentle and relaxing, nothing jarring. The best part is the routines. At night it slowly dims with chill sounds and helps me actually wind down without staring at my phone. In the morning the fake sunrise creeps up with warm light and birds or whatever sound I pick, and I wake up feeling way less zombie-like, even on those dark NYC winter days. It's super easy to control and the app is straightforward. The built-in sounds are solid. If you're tired of crappy sleep and brutal alarms, this thing's a total game-changer. Love it.

Winding down
Review The Hatch Restore 3 has made my evenings and mornings so much more relaxing. The assortment of alarms allow you to choose between peaceful music, calming bird noises, and upbeat messages to get your day started. I no longer wake up startled from my blaring phone alarm and then have to deal with staring at a full brightness screen trying to get it to shut off. The Restore slowly lights my room and softly wakes me up with its calming presence. The app is very straightforward, nicely designed, and very customizable. I’ve enjoyed the different light settings for each of the steps of my unwinding routine, the feature to preview all of the sounds, and being able to turn clock the time on and off so that there’s not light at night is a really great addition. I really have enjoyed customizing my schedule between the week and weekend, and being able to skip through some of the steps if I’m having a late night allows me to still fall asleep to the sounds I like. Overall, this clock has really upped the quality of my sleep through a more peaceful wind down and wake up.

Nice solid clock, bright wakeup light, easy to navigate buttons
First off, it's a very nice clock. I'm embarrassed to admit one of my favorite things about it is that it's chic and looks great on my nightstand (see photo). I got the cocoa and it's a really beautiful brown. It gets nice and bright to wake me up in the morning. It also has good sound quality for it's size, I was impressed. I also really like that the time display automatically dims, and you can do a simple tap to make it come up again. The buttons have a really nice/satisfying subtle click, they're easy to use even in the dark. The clock is easy to snooze and easy to turn off your alarm. I like the options to pause and switch between the unwind routines, as well as the button to turn the alarm off totally (for days I let myself sleep in.) I bought it to upgrade from a different sunrise alarm that I had, so I didn't understand the whole deal of the routines, so that was a really nice surprise. I have been working to get off my phone before bed, but am naturally suspicious of anything that promises to help with that. You have to do the initial set up of the routines on the phone, but once you do that, they're all set and the controls are pretty straight forward. I have it setup now with two different unwinds and a few alarms I toggle on and off depending on when I need to wake up (e.g. some days I gym before my kid wakes up etc.) I really like the short little podcasts that come with the premium subscription. The history one and the "nightly" is very fun! I haven't tried any of the meditations but I like that they're there. I usually listen to podcasts before bed which kept my phone right next to me on the nightstand, but now I listen to the podcasts via the clock and so I leave my phone further from my bed at night, a big win. I don't love that you have to sign up for the free trial of the premium content on initial setup, that was a little annoying. That being said, the content that comes with it is pretty good and I am now a paying subscriber, so they got me there. It's a really nice clock, if you are trying to get off your phone at night and doomscroll less in bed, this will definitely achieve that if you invest the time in the initial setup to get your unwind routines set up. I've had it for a little under two weeks and I'm falling asleep faster and feel better rested. Definitely worth the money.

Amazing night of sleep!
I absolutely love my Hatch Restore 3. From the moment it arrived, I was impressed. The packaging is beautiful and thoughtfully designed, and it was packed so securely that everything arrived in perfect condition. Shipping was incredibly fast, which was a great bonus. The device itself is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. I love the color — it looks so calming and blends beautifully into my bedroom. The backyard nature soundscape is my favorite so far. It feels immersive and peaceful without being distracting. One of the best features for me is the ability to completely turn off the clock light at night. As someone who already struggles with sleep, having a totally dark room makes a huge difference. That feature alone has been incredibly helpful. I also love how many sunrise color options there are. Being able to choose different tones makes waking up feel gentler and more customizable. After having a baby a year ago (and finally getting to a point where my baby is sleeping well!), I’m committed to restoring my own sleep. I truly believe being the best mom I can be starts with taking care of myself — and better sleep is a huge part of that. The Hatch Restore 3 feels like an investment in my health and well-being, and I’m so glad I purchased it. Highly recommend.

Excellent Rest and Wake
I have been using my Hatch Restore 3 for close to a month and I am so happy with it. The Hatch Sleep app is so easy to use and there are tons of customizable options to allow me to set my routine to wind down at night, sleep with my sound of choice when I want to, and wake up to an alarm that is pleasant and sets the tone for the day. I definitely wake up well-rested and in a better mood. I truly love not needing my phone near me at night - I have always tried to create routines that separate me from my smartphone, and this device makes it easy. As a bonus, I appreciate that this alarm only shows the time when I choose to tap it, which helps keep my sleeping space totally dark at night. Plus, it’s a beautiful design that coordinates with any decor. I went with the New Putty color. Highly recommend for a great rest and a great wake!

Great Clock, Amazing Features
I’ve been using the Hatch Restore 3 for a while now, and I can confidently say it’s one of the best purchases I’ve made for my sleep and overall daily routine. First, the design is beautiful and minimal, so it looks great on a nightstand without feeling like another piece of tech clutter. Setup was incredibly easy through the app, and within minutes I had my nighttime and morning routines customized exactly how I wanted them. The sleep routines are where this device really shines. The gentle sunset light combined with calming sounds helps my brain actually wind down instead of scrolling endlessly on my phone. The sounds are high quality and soothing, not tinny or repetitive and the gradual dimming makes falling asleep feel natural rather than forced. The alarm experience is a total game-changer. Waking up to a soft sunrise light and gradual sound is so much better than a harsh phone alarm. I feel more awake, less groggy, and way less stressed in the morning. It’s especially great for darker winter mornings or anyone who struggles to wake up. I also love the customization: brightness, sound levels, timing, and routines to fit your exact sleep schedule. Whether you want white noise all night, a guided wind-down, or just a simple light alarm, it handles it effortlessly. Overall, the Hatch Restore 3 has genuinely improved my sleep quality and morning mood. It feels like a small luxury that makes a big difference every single day. If you’re on the fence, I highly recommend it—this is one product that actually lives up to the hype.

Better after tweaking
Edit 12/6/2025: I did some brainstorming for how to get around the problems I had, and tried it out for a few days. In the process I ended up finding some solutions that I felt worked very well and were worth sharing. If I set up the cue and just leave it running, it will keep going until I start the unwind routine. That works well enough for a bedtime reminder that doesn't go away. My biggest issue was not being to set the time for things in the "undwind" part, since I use that to be aware of how long I've been awake (IF I've been awake too long). I've gotten around this by setting up several of the fixed time unwind steps together, so they'll play one after another and the combined time is close to what I'm looking for. Based on my experiments, this actually works quite well. One of the limitations of the process I was using before (setting audible to run for a set amount of time on my phone) was that you can't really set up anything to play in a list--you'd have to fiddle with your phone again to fix it if you needed anything extra before/after the story. With this, I can set a 5 or 10 minute meditation, and then a 30 ish minute sleep story for after I've relaxed more. I still think there should be more flexibility in how you can set things up--setting the amount of time the alarm goes off, or the snooze time, or being able to use sounds from different categories for other steps would be useful. It is also expensive and susbscription based for the full experience. And I also highly recommend setting it up well in advance of bedtime with a lot of time to play around and test sounds on the device, because you don't want to set something up and have it wake you up on accident because of the volume you left it at. But the sounds are very high quality, and I've found I like the set up after I've tweaked it to suit my needs better. With that in mind, I'm going to bump my review up a star. A suggestion for the developers--you might be able to reduce friction like this if you included some examples (maybe a video?) of how people might use the alarm in somewhat different ways. I like to do everything else I need before bed while the cue is playing, then come back, press the button, and listen to the meditation while I'm in bed. Then it proceeds to a short story, and then some extra music that goes for a set amount of time, so I know how long I've been awake if I hear it end. I'm guessing that maybe some people listen to some of their sounds/meditations outside of bed, and they might have only one sound per step or they could have a bunch. Some people may have it right next to their bedside, while others (like me) might have it away from their bed so that it encourages them to get up in the morning. It didn't really occur to me when I first got this that I could use it in the way that I am now. Seeing some examples of different ways people used it might've prevented some of my initial frustration. Original: I wanted to like this. I got this because I thought it would assist with my attempt to no longer use my phone as an alarm and just use a sunrise alarm. But for an alarm that's so expensive AND requires a subscription to get full use out of, it's remarkably feature poor. It has different steps for bedtime and wake up--cue to unwind, unwind, and sleep, and wake up. I liked the idea of this, but how they have it structured is very restrictive and isn't what I was looking for. You can't choose whichever audio you want for each step in their process. They have specific audio for each of their steps, and you can't mix them which is frustrating because if you could you might actually be able to make some good flexible bedtime routines. You're stuck with whatever they think belongs in each category. Also I think their library all of the time, which might be good in some ways, but won't that mean that the things I like will be going away as well? Good bedtimes are all about consistency so why such a focus on changing everything? You can't control how long anything other than the sleep step plays for. If you want your "unwind" step to only play for 5 minutes, or to play for 45 minutes, you'd need to get up and manually set it or fiddle with your phone while it's playing and you were trying to sleep. Unless there's a feature that's hidden somewhere? I don't think so, though. The steps generally say "this is a fixed duration". I use sleep stories to both help relax and let me know how long it's taken me to fall asleep, so being unable to control it at all is a problem. You can't schedule anything other than the alarm and your "cue", which I don't think you even get unless you're a plus subscriber. If you wanted this to double as a lamp with a scheduled on and off time to assist with going to bed, you can't. You can't even schedule your unwind to start at a certain time. You must walk up to it and press a button or start it from the app (not good for trying to get off of phone). I don't think you can even adjust how long your alarm will ring, snooze time, whether the snooze stops the light or the sound or both. The app also often has long response times and takes a long time to save changes. Overall: It's a sunrise alarm. The light is good, and some of the sounds offered are interesting. It's very expensive and requires a subscription for full functionality, when there are other sunrise alarms out there for half of the price (or even less) that are more flexible. I feel very disappointed in it and I'm thinking about returning it. If you are from Hatch and see that I'm wrong about the features, please let me know. I wanted to like it. Not being able to set the duration of steps, not being able to schedule times of different steps, not being able to select what sounds I'd like for each step (why can't I start some of the sleep sounds inside the unwind step? having them start out of the blue after unwind will end up waking me up), and not being able to adjust basic things like snooze and alarm duration time are kind of deal breakers for me. This is functionality that exists in much cheaper models. I get the feeling that a lot of the positive reviews are from people who've never used a smart sunrise alarm before.

Love the customizations
I recently started using the Hatch Restore 3 and it has made a bigger difference in my routine than I expected. I have been trying to use my phone less and get my phone out of the bedroom, and this has really helped me stick to that goal. I have peace of mind knowing that I have a reliable alarm that is incredibly customizable, so I do not feel like I need my phone nearby at night. There are a lot of small features that I did not realize I would like so much. One of the biggest changes for me was the clock display. The first few nights, I had the clock feature on all night. Then I decided to turn it off just to see what would happen. I did not know how much waking up in the middle of the night and seeing the time actually impacted my sleep. Once I turned the clock off, it became much easier to fall back asleep when I woke up during the night. That small change alone improved my rest. Not having a phone in my room ended up being more beneficial than I thought when I first tried it. I feel less distracted and more relaxed at night. I also love that I can set my alarm to very natural and quiet sounds. I am a very light sleeper and I try not to wake my partner when I get up for work. The gentle sounds help me wake up calmly without disturbing anyone. Then I am able to set a secondary alarm for my partner that includes the sunrise feature, which is a nice and gradual way for them to wake up. Overall, I have been really happy with how it has served me so far. We also have a Hatch for our kids that we have used for a couple of years now, and it has worked incredibly well for them. Because of that positive experience, I was excited to try this product for myself. It has definitely lived up to my expectations.
