This story was about MY Platoon.
I arrived in Vietnam on February 8th, 1968 assigned to command the 2nd Platoon, B Company, 3/22 Infantry, 25th Division. Oliver Stone was wounded and evacuated the same day. We have never met but I do recognize several of the characters depicted in the screenplay. The production captures the jungle fighting and the realism of the stress and emotions better than anything that has been done. Though I was not the Lieutenant in the film who was an ROTC commissioned officer and tried to communicate, he didn't have a clue. I knew many like him in the Army.I was drafted, rose through the ranks to OCS and served as a Tactical Officer in OCS. From there through Ranger School. Jungle School in Panama. Then to Vietnam. It was all a blessing because to understand men in the enlisted ranks, it is essential to have experienced standing in the ranks. This film captures it all. The Drugs were not a part of my platoon. Nor was there a "war" between NCO's. Both did happen in some units I am sure and both add to a very compelling story line. I recommend Platoon as the most realistic and perhaps the very best war movie ever made.

Powerful Anti-War Film Beautifully Restored in a Steelbook Blu Ray Release!
This is my favourite war film and it has been very well restored in 4K in a very beautiful steelbook release as well. I had the old dvd years back and the sad thing about that version was the poor picture and sound quality. The good news is that this blu ray has a much better picture and sound quality and is well worth the upgrade. With the exception of "Apocalypse Now" there is probably no better film on the Vietnam War than this one and it still holds up well over the years and rewards repeated viewing.Highly recommended!

Looks good to me
It looks good to me. Grain reduction has been applied, but not overdone. There is still a light wash of grain and plenty of fine detail visible. I haven’t watched the bonus features yet, but there is a fair amount. I think much of it was on the previous release. In comparing the picture quality with the older release, there is little comparison. Color is much better and more accurate, evident from the opening credits on. Detail is superior. Contrast is superior. Coarse grain has been reduced as mentioned before, but not to the point that detail begins to suffer. If you’ve seen the Aliens Blu-ray, you get the idea. The package is nice. It is a steelbook, with new artwork, but it shows fingerprints easily.I can’t rate 5 stars, because it is a single disc, and many titles are still being released with an extra disc of bonus features. And given the vintage of the film, it looks about as good as it can, but it still isn’t as razor sharp as more modern titles. But it is a significant improvement over the previous Fox release. Significant enough to justify the double dip if you are a fan of this wonderful film.

The picture quality is pretty good. Shoot! did a good job once again. I got several steel book editions of theirs and I'm not disapointed.
