The Man Who Invented Christmas [Blu-ray] [2017]

When I bought this Bly-Ray I had only ever seen Dan Stevens in Downton Abbey so it was great to see him in this film. He carries the film forward all the way. So interesting.

Loved it!

A great story about a great story. I love a christmas carol so this was right up my street. Definitely worth a look.

As a fictionalised biography of Dickens this is an interesting film, mixing elements of his real life with an imagined experience of overcoming writer’s block as the characters reveal themselves to the writer and their stories unravel. I teach ACC to GCSE literature students and they always love this - it’s not often there’s a spontaneous round of applause at the end of a film but this achieves it - such great fun! It’s great for helping them to imagine the story visually too, and supports their understanding of the novella’s context.

In years to come will be seen as a real classic.

This is a good entertaining family film. However I don't believe it to be historically correct. There was no mention of where the name Ebeneezer Scrooge came from. That is the chance encounter with the grave of the Edinburgh merchant Ebeneezer Scroggie. Which had the epitaph of "The Meal Man". Dickens misread this as mean man.

I was afraid that this would dampen my love for Scrooge/Christmas Carol, (I have five or six versions) but it made it even stronger.So glad I finally talked itself into ordering it. I watched it three times last Christmas season.

A different take on a Christmas film, but enjoyable and a good watch. Enjoyed it.
