I have installed these on three kayaks as part of my anchoring system. They work great even under harsh conditions. Install requires drilling but paired with a quality marine silicone they stay put and work great!

Great Product!!
I bought four of these cleats for my 24' Grande Laker canoe (custom built) to hang fenders at dockside. I secured them to the gunwales with simple screws and a little epoxy and they work great. These are full size bumpers and the cleats are sturdy enough to run my bow and stern lines through also even on a good chop. Once you learn to use them, they are super effective. Negative reviews are no doubt due to people who did not take two minutes to learn to use them correctly . No knots and you can tie up with one hand (I do adaptive outdoor education for persons with disabilities). Bottom Line: Sturdy, effective, simple to use and attractive for my custom built boat. Great investment.

Works for light duty attachments, buy hardware for attachment.
Works for light duty attachments. Will work on cord as thin as paracord (550 and similar), grips 5 mil line very positively. I have success also using thin elastic cord. Down side: *You must also purchase fasteners. *No attachment hardware included. The attachment holes IMO are too small and risk pulling out or anchor material. With modification and 1/4" bolts it make a sturdy attachment.
