This book is incredibly informative, full of descriptions and explanations, visual aids, and perhaps best of all, humor. The author tucks in plenty of humor in her writing so you are enjoying her personality as you learn everything you need to know about punch rug hooking. Watch a couple of her YouTube videos to get a feel for the ease and the satisfying sound of working with a punch needle and you will be hooked. I will use this book as a reference for a long time.

Inspirational book by Amy Oxford! This book is packed with tons of pictures of hooked rugs that were created with a punch needle. Amy presents very clear instructions on how to design, set up, hook, and finish your own punch needle creations. There are no patterns in this book, just step by step directions, historical info, and lots of eye-candy. I highly recommend this book (although it might not be suited to an absolute beginner, as there are no patterns). Please mark if you find by review helpful. Thank you so much!

I totally enjoyed this book and will keep it for years as a reference and idea book. She explains exactly how to master this craft, but it is a great book for beginners too. This was a really amazing book and excited me to do more with punch needle.

Well written book on the topic inclined including detailed how-to text/photos/illustrations. Although published in 2003, the information is still pertinent and easy to understand. Tip: Go to the Oxford Punch website for many videos by the author, who is a veteran rug punch artist.

I understand why the author is well respected, and I have spent a lot of money on her punch needles, but I don't care for the conversational style and lay out of this book. The photos detailing each step are nice, but the "answers" in the question/answer format are just filled with useless jibber-jabber, I found myself skipping ahead and trying to parse out the valuable information. It makes the instructional portion of this book tiresome. It could be cut down by 80% and have just as much value added. I'm sure this book is a great resource for those who need emotional support as well as technical guidance in their rug hooking adventures, I just don't have the attention span.

Although I haven't had much time to view it like I need to, I do like what I have seen so far. My summers are just so busy with canning, gardening, work, and such. This fall will afford me a bit more time to sit and really dive into it. I look forward to that.

Very nice book well done. However it was over my head. I am a beginner and was hoping for a simple project instead another book loaded with rules and no room for a greenhouse like me. So I will rely on YouTube. 😕

Das englischsprachige Buch aus dem Jahr 2002 hat 160 Seiten im Softcover, ist im amerikanischen Schiffer-Verlag erschienen und kostet in Deutschland ca. 25 €.Kapitel 1 dreht sich um die Punchneedle. Es besteht zwar nur aus vier Seiten, geht aber auf die Geschichte der Handarbeit ein, ebenso wie die unterschiedlichen Nadeln. Punchneedles gab es erstmals Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts, gegen 1880. Das Rug hooking wurde bereits gegen 1840 erstmals erwähnt.Kapitel 2 ist ein Interview mit Joseph Misiakiewicz, Inhaber der George Wells Ruggery auf Long Island. Joseph bringt uns die Arbeit George Wells'näher, der sein Leben dem Rug hooking verschrieben hatte. Zahlreiche farbenprächtige Beispiele unterstreichen dieses. Es liest sich ein bisschen wie eine Stunde Punchneedle-Geschichtsunterricht. Faszinierend, farbenfroh, facettenreich.Kapitel 3 stellt uns die McAdoo Rugs vor, für die Amy einige Zeit gearbeitet hat. Es geht um Inspirationsquellen, das Unternehmen, Albträume und wieder gibt es viele tolle bunte Beispiele zu bestaunen.In Kapitel 4 geht es dann richtig los. Amy Oxford gibt uns eine Privatstunde „wie man Punchneedle Rugs herstellt“. Jedoch bevor es richtig losgeht, gibt uns Amy noch einige gute Tipps mit auf den Weg. Dann erklärt sie ALLEs, beginnt mit der Musterwahl, Stoff, Zubehör, Rahmen, Garn-/Farbauswahl, erklärt das Einfädeln, gibt wertvolle Tipps und Tricks, zeigt das Versäumen, und vieles mehr. Alles wird durch unglaublich viele Bilder mit kleinen Hinweisen anschaulich und gut verständlich erklärt. Es ist wirklich wie eine Unterrichtseinheit, die in eigenem Tempo bearbeitet werden kann. Man kann nachlesen und zurückblättern, wann immer es nötig ist.Das komplexe Kapitel 5 liefert Fragen und Antworten rund um die Punchneedle und lässt zum Schluss wohl keine Fragen mehr offen. Es geht darum, wie man die gepunchten Dinge zu Wandteppichen umfunktioniert, um Reparaturen, wie man ein Werk designt und es vom Papier auf den Stoff transferiert, welche Garne gut sind, Stichgrößen, wie man das gepunchte säumt und vieles vieles mehr. Eine wahre Fundgrube für alle Punchneedle-Fans.In Kapitel 6 geht es bunt ans Werk. Hier stellt uns die Autorin gesammelte Werke vor und es bleibt so manch Mund vor Staunen offen stehen. Liebevoll in Details, farbenfroh, hier kommt jeder auf den Geschmack. Egal ob geografische Muster, Familienstammbäume, Bilder, Stuhlauflagen, Kissen…der Fantasie sind keinerlei Grenzen gesetzt. Besonders haben es mir die Treppenstufenteppiche angetan, ich bin noch immer sprachlos, wie herrlich diese aussehen und wirken. Mein Mann meinte nur: „Vielleicht fällst du dann weniger die Treppe runter?“ Hm, möglich ist es…Dieses Buch ist ein echter Klassiker und bietet alles, was einen solchen ausmacht: detaillierte, gut verständliche Erklärungen, selbst erklärende Bilder und Inspiration für fünf Leben als Punchneedle rug hookerin. Es ist in gut verständlichem Englisch geschrieben. Ich würde aber auch behaupten, dass man anhand der unzähligen Bilder auch ohne Englischkenntnisse weiterkommt.
