Sweet Love Song Album
This Fall, 1984 release is probably my favorite K-tel love song album. Every song is pleasant to listen to and there happens to be more hits here than on K-tel's "Chartbusters" hit compilation from that same time. This contains easy listening songs; some from 1984, and a few from years past that K-tel didn't carry yet. There are two very noteworthy oddities. First, this was my intro to Whitney Houston, before anyone's heard of her. She sings a great duet with Teddy Pendergrass, but the album only credits Teddy. The following year, she released her historically successful debut album, which contains this song. Yep, another K-tel album introducing me to an eventual legend! The other oddity is that 3 of the songs were written by Jim Steinman, who was Meat Loaf's primary songwriter. He penned the tunes sung by Barry Manilow, Air Supply, and Bonnie Tyler's smash hit.The recent soft rock hits include Phil Collins' big hit from "Against All Odds", Lionel Richie, Barry Manilow, Christopher Cross, DeBarge, Jeffery Osbourne, Air Supply, Glenn Frey, and a forgotten and underrated Journey tune. Soft rock hits from the past include Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes' smash from "An Officer & a Gentleman", Bonnie Tyler's iconic big hit, and Stephen Bishop's love theme from "Tootsie". Yep, there's a lot of 80's movie music on this record.Unlike "Chartbusters", there almost no filler here and several memorable tunes. This is a good buy.
