Parenting with Scripture: A Topical Guide for Teachable Moments

Condescending Author - but good simple book
The book itself is good - that is if you can get past the author TALKING DOWN TO YOU in the first chapters telling you how to use the book. It's so strange, because obviously her audience is parents who desire to use the word for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training - YET, she acts as if you, the reader, have never used the word of God and as if you have no idea how to do so!!! I was actually rather put off by her "I know how to use God's word with my children and you don't so I'll teach you" tone. Other than that, the thoughts are good. It's basic and doesn't cover a huge range of verses. Basically the "projects" that go alone with the different subtitles are things you can only do once, so that was a little lacking as well. Anyways, still a good, simple tool to keep handy. For a much more thorough and complete book for scripture references for training your children see Doorpost Ministries and get their book For Training in Righteousness. (They also won't talk down to you!!)

CREATIVITY GONE WILD!
What a creative way to introduce your children to God's Word! And I love the way it can be used to actually have little teaching sessions with your kids, too. In this hectic, busy world, it is SO easy to have those special talks with one child and then fail to do the same for each of the other children. I loved this book so much that I have ordered one for each of my own four adult children. The author, Kara Durbin, will now be able to reach the parents of all 10 of my grandchildren!

We really enjoy teaching our children in Gods word and this really helps!
This is very helpful for putting God First and teaching your child through scripture how to handle situations in life. If they get sad or when they are happy or if they get upset with something, we can look on the book and find a scripture, it has examples too how to help, using the right words to explain to young children.

Great resource
I've had this book on my wish list for a couple years and finally bought it. I have a 3yo and for a year or so, I've used scripture as part of correction and instruction. I'm glad to have this book with a more comprehensive subject list with relevant bible verses. There are many more spiritual habits and traits that I will be equipped to teach my children in order for them to know that what I'm teaching them are God's rules, not ones I made up. This is a great resource, and an excellent idea for the author to piece together.

Great resource!
Have used this as a resource many times when I have really needed help in the heat of the moment, and have purchased as a gift for new parents. Kara has done a great job of starting the conversation on behalf of parents, but leaving the instruction and delivery up to the parents.

Really like this.
We use this at the dinner table for discussion/ devotional. It's perfect for my 7 year old boy. We get in good conversations with it. Great topical approach to teaching values using quick/simple bible lessons. You can make the conversation brief or go indepth. It's up to you. Depending on the topic, sometimes we spend 5 minutes, sometimes 30 minutes. It also depends on the conversation it generates and how much it stimulates their young minds. Sometimes, this books is a really powerful tool.

The resource I have always wanted!
Fabulous! Each character issue, negative and positive, is defined by dictionary definition, scripture examples, discussion questions, and examples to apply character issue. I purchased two more for gifts and in addition to Loving Your Kids on Purpose which changed our home, and the Bible, these are the only resources a parent needs.

helpful
great book with verses to guide you through, though as Mum would say "Pray first" and get an answer from God is always a good idea
