I like the watch but hate the bracelet.
The black SNK809 completes my Seiko SNK collection. This time I thought I would try it on the bracelet rather than on the strap like my other SNK colorways. I hated it... not the watch, the bracelet. The watch is awesome, with the black dial and black day and date rings it is elegant and understated. The bracelet tho... it is of the "folded link" type that requires a lot of force applied in just the right manner to remove keepers from the links for sizing. In the end I wasn't comfortable doing this and went in search of a stock black Seiko fabric strap like is used on the other colorways. Now, it is perfect, I consider it one of my dress watches."Value for money" is a bit difficult to characterize in this case. A few years ago the SNK series were entry-level sub $100 watches, but since they were discontinued in 2019-2020, their price has risen substantially even tho they remain readily available. I was happy to pay this price for this watch, but "value for money" in your case is something you will have to determine for yourself.Water resistance is rated at 100 meters, but since it lacks a screw-down crown I wouldn't test that by swimming with it. For splashes while washing your hands and being out in the rain, it is probably fine.In short, excellent watch that I'm pleased to add to my collection.

Great product, really shady seller
Overall, really pleased with this watch. Looks great and works well. The only problems I see so far with it (the watch arrived today), is that the bracelet will pull on my arm hairs and the watch has no hacking movement; but this is really nitpicking at this price point. The watch looks great, is easy to read, and has an open back which is impressive on a watch this cheap. I previously bought an SNK809 with a regular black strap and was disappointed with how small it wore. I eventually decided to return it despite the fact that I truly love the design of this dial and the other features of the Seiko 5. I decided to give the metal strap a chance since I figured it might look bigger, and it turned out to fit my wrist well enough, and wear considerably better than the regular SNK809, looking larger than it is.In summary the watch is a fantastic entry-level piece that will get you hooked on watch collecting, and there is probably no better brand to buy your first watch from than Seiko, a favorite among enthusiasts and a company with great heritage. If I were to buy it again, however, I would definitely do so on the other Amazon product page, the one that first shows up when you look up SNK809K on Amazon. The seller on this page, AuthenticTimeStore, seems shady. They have really positive reviews, the product arrived on time and there were no problems with shipping. However, the watch arrived with a sticker that said: "No returns, read the instructions before using", in low quality, cheap packaging (especially compared to the one that came with the regular SNK809 I bought), with no instructions or warranty information from Seiko. The watch in fact is not covered at all by Seiko, and the seller profile for AuthenticTimeStore says: "Items sold by AuthenticTimeStore are covered by our own one year warranty. The manufacturer’s warranty may not apply to products purchased from our store", which leads me to believe that the watch is grey market. If you plan on buying this watch then definitely do so on the other product page where you will probably get a timepiece from an authorized distributor, covered by Seiko's own warranty and the option to return it.

99% perfect
Look, this is the best value for money in automatic watches. There's no contest, and if you're reading this, you already know that. The reviews you will read are all correct. It's beautiful, its functional, it's inexpensive, and it bats above its average. The ONE FLAW in this watch is in the illumination pips. They are completely symmetrical. At night, half awake, trying to orient your arm perfectly to 90 degrees to read the time, you are never guaranteed that 12 is where you think it is. This has already, one at least 2 occasions, caused me to read the time 1 hour off from the actual time. Putting a different shape at the 12 position would immediately fix this. There's already a triangle at the top of the face, JUST MAKE THAT ILLUMINATED.

I have mixed feeling about this watch
1. Is the watch genuine. So, first of, I was and still am hesitant as to whether the watch is real or a just a decent replica. It came with a box, manual and a warranty card with just a date stamp. As far as I know, those watches have been discontinued for quite some time. The packaging seemed to be fine, except that the pillow the watch was resting on was of quite poor quality, and wasn't sewed completely.2. Bracelet. The stock steel(?) bracelet is junk. Replaced it almost immediately with a leather strap.3. Loom. The loom is almost non-existent. Sure, it looms fine when you enter a dark area straight from the street. But it sure does not last long. I've left it for an hour in a locker and it was gone completely after it spent about an hour in direct sunlight.4. Day/date. I am fine when the watch changes the date not perfectly at 12 o'clock mark, but mine does it like 15 before midnight.5. The dial. Other that that I absolutely love the dial and how the watch looks on my wrist. I was looking into bigger flieger style watches, but none of them have such an exceptional dial.6. Price. I feel like I've paid way too much for this watch. It should've probably cost like 60-sh, maybe 70-sh... It does not feel cheap in any way, but I have some $100 chinese watches that are better spec-ed and feel much better.
