It is such a special and nostalgic film that you certainly have to have it if you love retro, video games and music of the 80s and 90s

Great movie!!!!

When I first read the book it felt like a conversation of my old buddies come to life in a story, what would happen if the puzzle for world supremacy was based on our ability to catch trivia points in the pop culture of our youth. That idea is fun and sounds great with a lot of laughs and a few beers thrown in the mix. Like any other book you love and get a few friends to read you like to talk about it becoming a movie and who might do it. Spielberg was the obvious choice as getting the rights to half of the book would require his sign off. When he was picked it was one of those moments we all said "Holy crap, they did it!?" Now this information didn't really change my day, or the weekend but it did give us forty something's a new conversation for the next BBQ. I got the chance to see the movie in theaters when it came out, not something I do a whole lot now a days in the world of giant screen TV's and the like. Though I am a book over movie person nine times out of ten this is one of those rare occasions, one of those one time out of ten where the movie was as good of a story as the book the first time we read it. Were all the changes better, of course not but were the changes better for the medium, absolutely. The addition of the 90's ish items made it more relatable to the youth of today that are starting to feel some of their nostalgia kicking in but it didn't detract from the 80's feel of everything. I walked out of the theater happily surprised that I got a second story out of the story I already knew and loved quite a bit. Fun thing, like all movies, everyone was better looking on the screen than they were in my head and that again is both welcome and unsurprising. I have watched this a few times since I have got it in the mail and I am glad that I saw it in the theater, though it looks great on the big flat screen it was fun to experience it with buddies like we did back in the day.

At its core, the film is about the importance of friendship and the power of imagination. The characters are well-developed and likable, and their relationships feel genuine and earned.
