Check you have both live and neutral in the box behind your light switch. My switches only have the live to and from the switch and I would need to run a new cable with live and neutral to the switch to use this or install the SwitchBot in the ceiling where the neutral is connected to the lights. Will now use for under cupboard LEDs which have live and neutral available behind their switch.

I recently picked up the SwitchBot Relay, and I’m genuinely impressed. At under £20, it offers incredible functionality—especially when compared to the SwitchBot Hub at nearly £50. For my setup, I moved the original heavier wires so they carry the load directly through the Relay, then ran my own thin wires to the Relay’s switch-live terminals—so those thin wires only act as the trigger, with absolutely no load on them. Although it took a bit of trial and error to match each conductor correctly, the included instructions were clear enough to get me up and running quickly. Since installation, the Relay has never dropped its connection. It’s small, well-built, and fits neatly behind a wall switch. In my bathroom, I paired it with a SwitchBot Humidity Sensor to automate the fan—so far, it’s been rock-solid, though I did need a small spacer from the hardware store to accommodate everything in the back box. I now own three Relays—two with power-monitoring enabled—and I plan to add more. An unexpected bonus: they act as Wi-Fi extenders for my other SwitchBot devices, improving coverage for sensors, locks, and keypads throughout the house. All in all, the SwitchBot Relay delivers excellent value. It’s durable, discrete, and works seamlessly—highly recommended for anyone looking to automate switches without breaking the bank.

On paper the SwitchBot Smart Relay Switch 1 appears like a smart upgrade to your light or power switches around the household. It all the features are contained in one device and, for the price of £30 you get a pair, each device is effectively £15. The device functions wirelessly through an app and Bluetooth connectivity, if the app or power does go out you still get connectivity. This is perfect for programming and controlling switches, such as having lights turn on and off while you're away or have power sources turn off such as fan ventilation systems. This gives you to extra security but also the extra flexibility to control your appliances remotely, something I thought would be perfect. The issue though, when you get the switches, is that the switches heavily rely on the size of your switch box, as though it says it will fit, the size is somewhat larger than some of the light switch boxes we have around the house. That and some of the light switches do not have a neutral line, where the smart switch relies on needing. As such, this workes well for ceiling lights however, if you don't have the DIY capabilities, this can be a difficult sell. If you have it all set up, it depends on your apps or using bluetooth to power on the switch remotely. Buy with caution.

The instructions are a little pants but the overall item is every easy to use and will make a dumb switch smart if there is neutral at the switch.
