Q: Has anyone tried this to cut the flesh out of a watermelon? I would like to make a curved cut.

I use this cheese wire everyday in my four restaurants and I think you'd have a very difficult time making a curved cut using it. When there is tension on the cheese wire it straightens outs. You are better off making a curved cut with a filet knife.

Q: What are the handles made of, wood or plastic? Also, can they be replaced if broken or is the whole item just trash at that point?

The made in France Cheese wire has plastic handles and stainless steel wire. Handles might be replaceable with similar size and shape plastic or pvc by boring hole through center and re-fastening wire.

Q: anyone use this for cutting cake?

It's my go to for cutting cheesecakes, wiping the wire between slices....or any sense cake with a sawing motion.

Q: Could i use this to cut an ice cream tub to make cake?

As long as you allow the ice cream to soften a bit to REMOVE from the tub, it works like a charm. You can always place the ice cream back in the freezer to firm up again, but I dont. I simply cut the icecream with a sawing motion...good luck
