I got to know Sam from our days of playing hockey together in Singapore, so this read quite differently compared to the other autobiographical novels I'm used to reading. Several years ago, I was lucky enough to hear Sam personally tell his story. It was so incredibly moving and inspirational, that I often still tell people about it. I could not wait for the release of this book, but thought there’s no way reading it will be as good as hearing him tell it in person. Sam certainly proved me wrong. He somehow managed to capture all of the emotion, interest, and intrigue in his writings. I absolutely could not put it down. I’ve since bought numerous copies for gifts.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Wonderfully written account from both Sam and his family’s perspective. It captures the realities of being captured abroad and what an American family faces in the most sensitive of circumstances. I truly appreciated their honesty, and how this family shows their faith in God and each other to bring Sam home. I would recommend this book to anyone.
