There is one dud track - I always skip over Kashmir.The first ten tracks made up Monsoon's 'Third Eye'LP - The extra tracks are B sides (Sunset over the Ganges, Indian Princess) and remixesEver so Lonely is still fantastic - one of the best singles of all timeEyes - Beautiful - layered with great vocalsShakti - Obvious why it wan't a big hit but a great record nonethelessTomorrow Never Knows - the original is one of the best records ever made but this is pretty good and head and shoulders above other coversAnd I you - One of my favourite tracks of all time. The ending could last 20 minutes and I wouldn't tire of itYou can't Take me With You - is kind of dated, but in a quirky drum machiny kind of way it's all the better for thatHer other albums are great too but very different to this. The best is probably 'The Zen Kiss'

I only really bought this for the "Ever-so-lonely" track which took me right back to my misspent youth, but in fact I really like many of the other tracks too so it is a much better find than I thought

Bought this on impulse and was pleasantly surprised. I bought Shakti when it came out (which I always preferred to 'Ever so lonely' although the latter was the big hit) and these two, along with tracks 4 & 7, are the best things on it. The 'tomorrow never knows' cover is OK although I have known the beatles' version too long for Monsoon's cover to supplant it in my affections. Couple of the later tracks (particularly 'Kashmir') are a bit bland (you can imagine hearing them as musak down your local tandoori) and the extra remixes of 'ever so lonely' that close the album are IMO unnecessary.Still, overall pretty good. Anyone contemplating buying this and baulking at the price shown might be interested to know I got it for £6.50 plus less than £2 postaqe on Alibris.

Heard a remix of Ever so lonely so bought this it arrived early, was a good price, will use them again.

FM東京で夕方放送されていた桑原茂一さん監修の『the music network』でモンスーンの一曲が流れ、ビル・ネルソンのE-BOWだとすぐに気づき国内盤LPを買いました。結局モンスーンとしてはアルバムは一枚きり。シーラ・チャンドラの声はあどけなく、当然ながらオリエンタルでエキゾチック。久し振りに聞けました。

9 out of 10. Though some seem to feel that the melange of western pop and Indian influences somehow does a disservice to Sheila Chandra, I couldn't disagree more. For me, this collaboration transcends both genres to produce something exceptional. I first heard Monsoon's "Ever So Lonely" on a compilation CD of '80s 12" mixes, and it led me to seek out this album. I'm so glad I did. From the moment I heard Sheila sing, "I was born on the wings of the dawn", I was completely hooked. Highly recommended.

80’ｓのNew　Wave全盛時代、突如として現れたヒンディポップ。その、代表と言っても言い過ぎではないでしょう。YMOファンにも通じる部分があります。E　Bow　Guiterで参加しているBill　Nelsonは高橋幸宏ともセッションしていましたよね。Bill　NelsonはほかにFlock　Of　Seagullsも。とにかく80’ｓファンには必聴ものです。

ポスト・パンク、ニュー・ウェイヴの流れから出て来た、イギリスのヒンディ・ポップ。オリジナルは1982年のアナログ盤。こちらは1995年の輸入盤CD。ボーナス・トラック６曲追加。11、12は全く知らなかった曲。13～16はアルバム収録曲の別ヴァージョン（そのうち３曲は６の「ever so lonely」）。　　シーラ・チャンドラーはエスノ歌姫として一部でカリスマ的人気を博し、クラシックよりずっと複雑なインド音楽の深さと広さを知らしめることに貢献。シーナの声は清潔感と透明感にあふれ、本当に独得。エコーの掛け方も柔らかめで、魅力倍増。バンドの大看板だった。　しかし、イギリスにはインド人だけではなく、ジャマイカからの移民も多く、ボブ・マーリィのブレイクを受け、パンクもレゲエのリズムを導入したり、ブリティッシュ・レゲエのバンドがどんどん現れ、埋もれてしまった。　アナログ盤未収の11は、派手さはないものの、しっとりとした実に良いナンバー。同じく初めて聴いた12も印象的なピアノでスタートとし、リリカルなメロディが素晴らしい。この２曲を聴くだけでも、買い直す価値は充分にあります！
