Mandolin Primer Book for Beginners (Video & Audio Access)

Great guide for learning
Being a guitarist for many years, I wasn't sure what to expect when I decided to learn mandolin. I was timid in the big differences between a guitar and mandolin - strings are in reverse order from top to bottom on a mandolin, the neck is a lot smaller than a guitar and these things scared me. So I decided to take the plunge and let this book help guide on this new adventure. The book is easy to read and follow, and takes you down a path that works perfect for me. The one thing I can say is take your time learning and don't get flustered as that will slow your learning down. Don't try to move ahead and speed things up unless you are truly learning that fast and if so I am jealous - haha!

Informative Book
I’m a beginner learning the basics of playing a mandolin. This book was recommended to me by a friend and it’s very informative. A lot of the basics are covered and I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn a mandolin.

Excellent book, highly recommend
I started teaching myself mandolin over two years ago from a very good book that I picked up overseas. I really enjoy playing mandolin (I am a lifelong guitarist as well), and I started taking lessons locally two months ago. This is the book that my instructor uses. Because of my experience, he started me off in the middle of the book. But I've also worked through the prior exercises and tunes, and found some real jewels. The online video and audio support are excellent - starts you off slow and picks up from there. If you are a new player, this is a great place to start.

GREAT Book for mandolin.
The book every mandolin player should own. Has a CD with tunes played 3 ways, the last being with guitar up to tempo. Covers what every beginner needs, in both manuscript and tablature, with scales: C; G; D; and A and a section on strumming; and a chord chart. The tunes are: Yankee Doodle, Oh Suzanna, Worried Man Blues, Wildwood Flower, Boil Them Cabbage Down, Cripple Creek, John Hardy, Red Haired Boy, Soldier's Joy, 8th. of January, Billy in the Lowground, Blackberry Blossum, Bill Cheatum, Sally Goodin, Old Joe Clark, Salt Creek. That's 16 tunes! Plus that CD, you can't beat the price. The tunes are really great, you can also use it them on fiddle as well. I highly recommend this book!

ok
If U don't know anything it would be ok I guess. I learned by ear 30 some yrs ago from 1 my dad got by ear. only good thing about it is it has a chord chard at end. Been playing guitar since 2nd grade, am 72. Play mostly by ear. A mandolin is much like a guitar just 4 strings not 6 in pairs like a 12 string. I have 3 of those. Yes I am ok with the book for chord chart, but got to Utube on how to play. tune, and chord chart. U can see it done. When U learn something U get many things from many places. Learn the scale find some 1 that knows it on piano, guitar or watch mary poppins, Do Ray Me. Learn that U open a new world. I'm not gonna say anything bad about this book. It is what it says it is. A starter. In 2nd grade I spent alot of time in bedroom learning. Mom told Dad she loved it cause I was so quiet.

It does what it says
A beginner's guide, but you still need a teacher. Video access is just that, access. There are many books out there for the mandolin and this is not the best, and not for the price. It's still a useful start.
