Pete Way was the original bass guitarist and founder member of British hard rockers UFO. In 1982, after making 10 studio LPs with UFO since their 1969 start, Pete left initially to play bass on Ozzy Osbourne's "Talk Of The Devil" tour as well as briefly forming Fastway with Motorhead's "Fast" Eddie Clarke. Both were short lived, as in 1983 he formed Waysted. Featuring Fin Muir on lead vocals, Ronnie Kayfield on lead guitar, former UFO and MSG member Paul Raymond on rhythm guitar, keyboards and backing and Frank Noon on drums, their debut LP was originally issued on UFO's label Chrysalis Records. Featuring Waysted classics 'Love Loaded', 'Women in Chains' plus a cover of 'Somebody to Love'. The final album was mixed at the Townhouse studios, but research in the Chrysalis archives revealed six songs which had been previously mixed at Maison Rouge studios; 'Love Loaded', 'Sleazy', 'Night Of The Wolf', 'Right From The Start', 'All Belongs To You' and 'Somebody To Love'. These unique versions appeared on CD for the first time with the HNE reissue in 2013.

Sounds dated now
This was one of the most hotly-anticipated LPs at the time - everyone wanted to see what Pete Way had managed to conjure after he'd left UFO on account of their musical direction.Well, the songs were there, sometimes at least, but the recorded sound left a lot to be desired. The record sounds hollow, with instruments stepping all over each others' sonic ranges. The drum sound is terrible, the bass is sloppy and Kayfield's guitar doesn't slice through. Not entirely sure what Kipper bothered turning up for, either."Women In Chains", chosen as the lead and only single, was just awful. A dirgey sexist anthem that should have been shot at birth. "Toy With The Passion", "Right From The Start" and "All Belongs To You" remain the high points.Added to that, the cover is a terrible heavy metal cliché job that deserves a place in anyone's Hall Of Shame.Unfortunately, Waysted never really came across well on their recorded work. The Fin version of Heaven Tonight was almost there, but then America beckoned and the band tried to hit that market with a run-of-the-mill US vocalist who successfully emasculated them. The video for the re-vocalled Heaven Tonight shows a bunch of poseurs, not the Waysted we all loved. They lost the core fanbase at that point.Having said all that, the live shows up until Fin left absolutely made up for the failings of the studio recordings. Waysted were the ultimate live British party band, and I never saw them play a duff show. Way was still on fire, and had a great thing going with Fin.What a shame that Pete, who inspired so many to take up bass, has become incapable of holding it together - he could have had a long musical career and been remembered long after his departure. Instead, his epic performances are ancient history and he stumbles around promising the earth and delivering nothing. To piss all that love up against the wall is a real shame.

BY FAR / THE BEST WAYSTED RECORD
this was by far the best waysted record of there 4 year carrere between 1983 and 1987, when i bought this lp in the autum of 1983 i was so thrilled becouse ufo had broken up after making contact earlier that year and along came pete with an even more raw heavy sound then ufo had ever had, anyway fins raspy vocals was what got me at first and the line up was awsome with frank noone on drums, i liked what frank had done with bernie torme so with paul raymond on board again i felt how can this record go wrong and it didnt, this was a perfect album for 1983, my favorite song on this album has to be toy with the passion next to love loaded, sleazy, night of the wolf, and woman in chains, i also thought this (like ufo) had a very interesting album sleeve, anyway i played this to death back in 83,84 and 85 so its always great to hear this again, this 30th ann edition comes with a great booklet with an interview with pete himself talking about how this record came about, the remastering is ok and the bonus tracks are ok becouse i personally feel the other mixes sound almost the same as the songs that made the final cut, this has been reissued a number of times the past 25 years and i think its safe to say this will be my last copy of vices for i have the original uk lp, the japan lp, the japan cd, the zoomclub cd reissue and now this, this is indeed a bit of a cash cow but if you dont already own this on cd then i totally reccomend grabbing this, this is a hm classic from the 80s that im glad still gets high pumps some 30 years on the next best thing waysted did was the ep in 1984 when andy parker came back to take the drum stool over and a young neil sheppard took over for ronnie keyfeild ( neil quit as soon as the ep was done only to be replaced by paul tonka chapman), sadley after the ep in the summer of 1984 and an autum 84 uk tour supporting maiden waysted never quite sounded the same and finally fell apart in mid 1987, enjoy this cd this was there best work!!!!!

when i first heard this lp in the early eighties my ears literally melted.thundering bass drums from the off blew me threw the wallgreat production from glossopmy favourite track is 'right from the start'my other favourite track is all the rest........they are all good.....sleazy..some one to love....hot love.....hard metallic rock music with melody, attitude, musical competence, humour, and fun gotta love it.who is melody attitude? perhaps it is the old bird on the cover? who knows? certainly not me!wonder where she is now?i digressyou gotta have this in your collection its a classic.and its got count orlock on the front cover, who i heard did the backing vocals on love loaded, but the guy who told me was a professional liar who went on to be a MP......good story though
