The heavy duty base has a positive locking detent at 0 degrees and a large, heavy duty lever keeps it securely locked at other angles. The quick release is another example of impressive engineering. Imagine working a latch that meets minimum requirements. Now imagine if they bolstered the weight and thickness of the parts by ten. It's just a pleasure to operate. I hadn't realized that they made jig saws with a dust blower. That is just awesome. No more hunched over, blowing with my mouth as I move along! UPDATE: I've used this saw countless times now, in the shop (convenience of no plug) and in my on-going kitchen renovation. I still LOVE this saw! I make good use of the four oscillating settings, depending on rip versus cross cutting, as well as the desired quality of cut. It has excellent speed control - nay, perfect speed control.
