Combining text with photographs and illustrations, this book provides children with a global view of history, from the creation of the Earth to the beginning of the 21st century. It also includes hundreds of web site addresses for further research. It features easy access to Web sites and free downloadable pictures and maps with test covering events from the Big Bang to the dawn of the 21st century. Review: Must have encyclopedia - Great illustrations, captivating for elementary or even kindergarten students. Concepts are concise and simple with lots of visual stimulation for younger kids. Definitely a must have for any library especially for homeschooling. We use it as a part of a curriculum. I love the sturdiness of every page not just the cover. It also has word lists and world time charts in the back. It goes from the very beginning, dinosaurs, Neolithic to all civilization and wars, till discussing current issues like climate, cinema, technology, human rights… Review: Great supplemental resource which includes additional internet links - We use this as a supplement when homeschooling our children, both age 9. The book is colorful and concise and holds the attention of the kids during History lessons where we use it alongside History Quest. This is an encyclopedia as the title states and it is not a narrative, so I would not use it as a main spine, but as a truly wonderful supplement. The links, provided with each period to further augment the lessons, are usually outstanding and engaging. As a result, history lessons are now one of the favorite times of our school day. Nothing is better than getting a "Yay!" when it is announced it is now history time! Highly recommended.

Wonderful encyclopedia.
This book is absolutely wonderful. It has kept my children's interest the entire time. The information is clear and explained so it's very easy for children to understand. There are very few real pictures in this book. It's mostly all artwork, but it's beautifully done and looks pretty realistic so it's not a problem for us, but if you wanted real pictures, this maybe isn't the right book. We are really enjoying it and am definitely glad we purchased.

Easily used as a stand alone history curriculum
I purchase this book to use with the history quest curriculum. After the first lesson, I relised my children were very interested in the book, and that history quest was going to "water down" or bore them of the information. After finishing only 2 pages of the encyclopedia, the curiosity flowed and they began asking questions and we were having meaningful conversations about history and what, or how we can learn from it. After reading the pages and watching the videos from the encyclopedia, we then referred to our history quest book as the curriculum was laid out and they instantly lost interest. They were looking around the room and fiddling as I read the long chapter. One month later and we have yet to use history quest again. We decided to begin at the front of the encyclopedia, reading two pages at a time and watching all videos and completing the activities included ( there are videos, and sometimes there is a game, or addional pictures.) We do the activities and print the pictures to color or to label. Our history lessons are now guided with facts and completed with curiosity. I regret purchasing history quest, this book alone is enough. I purchased two addional encylopedias for each of my children so hat they can follow along and look at the pictures and diagrams. I don't have to plan ahead, and I don't have to fight for their attention. We complete two pages at a time, the pages are set up to open as a spread focusing on a single topic and going in order throughout history. The links are also organized by the pages so you can read pages 13-14, and watch the videos and do the actives for those pages. I'm Very pleased with my purchase and im happy to see my kids have an interest in history. I am already looking into other usborne encyclopedias for our studies.

Slightly smaller than hard cover
Good product. I was worried about it being paperback but it feels nice in my hands. It’s slightly smaller than the hard cover version but the inside graphics and words don’t feel much smaller. I’m toying with removing the cover and spiral binding this.

Beautiful art work
This is a great addition to a young child's library to spark interest in history. Beautiful depiction and language easy enough for a 5 year old to comprehend with minimal explanation. It's not in depth, but it has just enough to facilitate a greater interest.

良さそう
子どもはまだ読んでませんが、これから読むところです。 英語の読む練習をしながら、歴史の勉強もできるので、良い本だと思います。

Simplesmente maravilhoso
Muito legal. Muitas informações interessantes. Minhas filhas amaram e mesmo sendo em inglês a gente consegue compreender bem, ou só usar o tradutor . Vale a pena
