With FAN stays cool
Very well made, keep's NVME 2.0 cooler. This is the first Enclosure that shows up as a 40Gb SSD I have ever had. FAN is very silent, fast enough for all of my Data Transfer that I will need. Crazy fast!

Punhes incredibly above its relative cost!
This inexpensive enclosure performs on par with premium enclosures I have that cost $200+. Works well with both Macs and PCs.

It works good with Mac mini M4 but the fan is always on once Mac was turned on!
Searched for a NVME enclosure to be the primary storage of Mac mini M4 base model for a while and decided to try this one though it only had limited reviews. The build quality looks good and Crucial P3 1TB was easy to put into the case. It delivered around 1600MB/s, not 3000MB/s with P3. I am not sure that might be relate to P3 is a PCIe Gen 3 x4 device, not PCIe Gen 4 x4 but I don't have other spare NVME disk to try. BUT there is a minor issue that I might send it back to Amazon, i.e. fan noise. The fan noise is not large but you will hear it whenever you turn on your Mac even the Mac went into the sleep mode! (The noise is similar to the noise from my busy Mac mini 2018). The fan on this device is always working! I checked other ones that have fan built-in using PWM control and only turn fan on when the temperature goes over 40 degrees or other devices use very large case to dispense the heat. I guess I will return this device and get other using big case approach since I don't like fan noise and this kind not-replaceable fan might become a mechanical part that might be down in the long run.Update:Spent more time to go over other name brand (or not) products, I found those without fan might cause heat dispense issues and SSD might die due to the heat. 2. Those with PWM fan control still saw reports that the enclosure got hot and disk disconnected or throttled. In my memory, my SATA SSD inside the Lenovo Laptop died after a disk clone. I guess it is because of the heat. Overall, I believe a always on fan might be better to protect the fragile high speed NVME SSD and decide to keep this enclosure.

Wow - in every respect.
So I loaded this with a 4tb SSD and formatted in Exfat. The SSD was easy to install, as was the sticky pad and the aluminum heat sink. The most challenging part of the entire assembly was putting the rubber screw into the holder and getting it in a satisfactory position to hold the SSD - pretty easy with minimal practice. Total install time - maybe about 2 minutes plus formatting. This was recognized as TB by an HP Dragonfly, and an HP Elitebook. Both had amazing transfer speeds with the included cable. I didn't measure as there was no point - this was thunderbolt and I was getting thunderbolt speed. The enclosure is well made. Strong aircraft-type aluminum, only better finished. The fan - well, it is a little loud for my taste, but I actually don't hear it except when I go to listen to it. So it's annoying, but only because I'm thinking it would be annoying. I haven't figured where specifically on my desk this will sit long term, so noise may not be an issue. This thing is self powered through the TB4 cable. Only one input on the short front side. Flashing blue light on top. That's it. It's quick, it's reasonably quiet, and we'll see how well it cools in the long term. So far this is a love fest.

Great and very fast but fan is very loud to the point I can't keep it connected
The unit is very fast, very fast... however the fan is way to loud it drives me crazy... I just can't use it or can't keep it connected until I am ready to use it then I eject it right after I have two Samsung T7's that I use instead of this... Can anyone tell how to disconnect the fan on this unit

Top-tier performance, but a bit loud.
This MAIWO 40 Gbps M.2 NVMe SSD enclosure is a beast, and a great option if you want uncompromising performance.I tested this on a few different devices:Surface Laptop 4 (has a 10 Gbps USB-C Port)AMD 7950X3D + X870E motherboard (has a full-bandwidth 40 Gbps USB-C Port)2 TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus (a slightly older, but still solid, PCIe 3.0 SSD)Installation of the drive, thermal pad, and metal heat spreader was easy. However, the contact between the thin metal heat spreader and the outside of the enclosure seems like it could be a little better--a slightly thicker piece of metal would have been ideal. To help with this shortcoming, I applied a very thin coating of Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste. Because of its hefty weight, this device acts like a massive heat sink, and the fan helps push the hot air away from the drive.Speaking of which--the fan runs all the time, which isn't great from a noise perspective, and is a bit louder than I would like. I would rather it be tied to a temp sensor. However, it does help to evacuate heat away from the drive, which is important during file transfer. It is definitely audible, so I do not think it would be ideal for external recording where you plan to use your on-camera microphone. However, to move data from point A to point B as fast as possible, you can't go wrong. This moved data extremely quickly on both the 40 Gbps port and the the 10 Gbps port--the attached test results are from my 40 Gbps port, clearly showing that I'm saturating the older PCIe 3.0 drive, and not the link.If you're a photographer or professional and need to move a lot of data quickly, this is a great way to do it. Just know that it is a little on the loud side!

full metal m.2 ssd enclosure with a built in fan? Yes please
Enclosure is full metal and uses a toolless design. it does take a little effort to open it at first but after you figure out the mechanics its no problem. Kudos to the maker for making this toolless, no need to find tiny screw drivers to open it up. The speeds are true to form with usb-c standards and it is faster than your regular usb ssd. I did notice it does not come with a regular USB cable, only USB-C to USB-C cable. Luckily, I had some usb to usb-c cables laying around, no big deal. The speed does decrease if its regular usb so if you want top notch speed make sure your device/computer has USB-C support. Fan was quiet enough for me. if you're in the market for a solid built SSD enclosure that will keep your m.2 drive cold, this gizmo is for you.
