Wildflower - Yellow Rattle - 1200 Seeds

Very quick dispatch and delivery time, seeds arrived in good condition, value for money. Unable to comment on how well they germinate as they are not supposed to be planted till autumn. Would recommend

Good value. Arrived before time.

Plenty of seeds. Hoping for a good crop to turn a pretty hopeless lawn into a flower meadow food source for bugs and butterflies. Must always grub up the dead grass to provide bare patches where the seeds can reach and dig into the bare earth.

Didn’t grow. 😞 I may have tried to seed it out of season so hopefully may still grow.

I planted these seed in two batches, carefully following the planting instruction - correct time of year etc. I also planted a third of the seeds early in the season by freezing them first for 10/12 days. Both approacehs failed to yeild a single yello-rattel plant. I can only conclude that the seeds we not what they said it was or that they were of poor quality stock. Not a single yellow-rattle plant germinated. Plenty of grass shoots. I will not be buying from this seller again.

I was intrigued of the idea of a native plant that parasitically grows on the grass. I have a small patch of grass that i leave to grow naturally, so i was keen to try the Yellow Rattler. ( its name comes from the fact that the seed pods rattled and that would tell the farmer that it was time to cut the hay. I planted the seeds in late august, i would have waited but that wasn't practical. i firmly trampled the seeds in and waited for the cold weather. its now nearly a year on I've two good clumps of plants which certainly have had a visible effect on the grass. The plants are definitely Yellow rattler and Im hoping that that they self seed for next year. I might have expected more plants but no hesitation in recommending this to any one who wants to try some thing a little different
