Very Functional Unit for Price (FCA Autoauth Capable)
Very solid unit for the price. Initial setup is quick and simple - mine on an Android based phone. Normal Play Store app install and then a few demographic entries for registration and license key activation. First use then goes into vehicle specific data downloads. Expect 5-10 minutes as this unit has compatibility with many vehicles makes and models. Once initial config of the app is done and the unit is plugged into the vehicle OBD port the app connected quickly. Once connected to the unit the app gives you the option of doing vehicle specific diagnostics either automatically or manually. The auto detect function worked well for multiple vehicles - BMW, 2015 and 2024 Subarus. Speed of the diagnostic scan depends on the actual vehicle as each of mine varies but all were extremely fast when compared to my other scanners (hardware and software based). The initial scan auto detects VIN, make, model, etc. and then scans all of the vehicle's available modules. Once scanned you can view a large amount of module parameters and states. A few examples - for the 2015 Subaru it was stated on a different forum that the GW tools do not have CVT fluid temp, which is key to proper filling procedure. Well, I can confirm that it does w 1/10th degree resolution. While I was in there, I was able to read and clear all errors across many modules. While in the transmission module, the BT unit has a broad number of good monitors for many different states (e g., shows live state of each gear) and a nice feature is it gives the normal value ranges for the numeric monitors. Just to check, I went into a few other modules and was please to see the same broad range of monitors (for example, live state of brake light switch) which makes troubleshooting and ruling out certain components so much easier. Unlike other scanners, you don't have to setup a data display screen to see every value. You do have the option to monitor the value trends and then generate a report. For the BMW, it actually has BMW error codes vs P codes and a large number of diagnostics when compared to my other BMW specific scanner. The unique item I wanted to try was the FCA Autoauth function which allows you to bypass the firewall on newer FCA vehicles (e.g., Fiat, Chrysler, Ram, etc.). Tried the unit in my 2019 Ram 1500 - unit auto prompts to enter an Autoauth account - I was able to quickly login w my Autoauth account and it was able to get through the secure gateway to do full diag and actuation - this is a big bonus. Aside from diagnostics, the unit has a robust set of functions that you can perform (of course these are vehicle specific). As an example, with a button push or two I was easily able to place the emergency brake in maintenance mode on all my vehicles with this unit. All in all, a pretty decent unit for the money especially for multiple makes. Of course this does not do what it isn't designed for - so it is not a programmer and doesn't claim to be. So for those with dealer lever tools (like ISTA for BMWs) this won't give you module layouts, troubleshooting plans or maintenance plans - but what it advertises itself as it did an exceptional job across my 4 different vehicles.

Worth every penny!
I always wanted a bidirectional scan tool like this but was looking for one that had lifetime updates, without any catches and could handle a wide variety of vehicles. When I heard that GearWrench was offering this model at such an affordable price, I knew this was the one. I owned GearWrench tools in the past and I was very satisfied with them so I was hopeful that it would be the case here. They did not disappoint. But let's talk about my experience in chronological order. Delivery was quick and on time. I installed the app on my Android phone (a 2025 Motorola Moto G Power) and attempted to connect the device to my 2021 Mazda6. It would not connect. I changed phones (Samsung A12) but that did not connect either. I reinstalled the app on the Motorola - nothing. I called customer service - nothing. I was considering returning it but decided to poke around a bit first. After a few minutes I got a prompt from the phone saying that I was to grant the app permission to access Bluetooth. I allowed it and voila - it connected! It has been smooth sailing thereafter. Works like a charm - for the most part. The first need I had of it was with my daughter's 2013 Mazda6. It came to me with a flashing airbag light. BT identified the problem as a passenger airbag module, but did not specify further. I attempted to clear the code to no avail. I attempted to reset the module, to no avail. At that point, I reached for my laptop, connected FORScan (a third party dedicated Ford/Mazda software) to the car and it was able to give me more details and was able to reset the module. I was a little disappointed that BT couldn't handle it, though. My next use of it came with my JDM Nissan Note X DIG-S. I had just done a transmission fluid and engine oil change and noticed that the Auto Stop/Start light in the instrument cluster was flashing and the feature was disabled. I reached for BT and it told me that the electric transmission fluid pump was experiencing low pressure of 0.5 MPa. That's supposed to be normal for the car at idle (according to the Nissan workshop manual) but the car and BT were saying otherwise. I wanted to reset the transmission module but I decided to leave it alone for now. It eventually cured itself. My latest use of it came a few days ago when a coworker's JDM Toyota Voxy had the dashboard light up with warning lights - typical for Toyota. I connected BT and it said that the vehicle had a number of issues including the ABS and the valve control system. I cleared the codes and all has been well since. Very strange, but BT saved the day. I haven't used all the features so far, but I believe it has the ability to put you on the right path if you ever encounter an issue, though it may not be able to solve it. I'm giving it 5 marks in spite of the issue with the airbag module, though. This is so because that feature may actually be a Mazda-proprietary feature that just was not available to BT as yet. I have done several updates since then so perhaps it is now possible. Pros: Updates are free for life Customer service agents available via phone Handles makes not even sold in the North America Cons: Bluetooth connection is slower than wired devices Unable to automatically detect any vehicle that I have connected it to (Mazda, Toyota, Nissan, BMW) It must be registered to only one phone at a time (customer service has to be contacted if moving to another) May not be able to reset all modules

Very impressive , just be careful as this is a pro level tool
So there is a ton of options in today age with countless companies making diagnostic scanners now and I spent a lot of time researching and reading technical data and reviews for most Bluetooth scanners that are this style that uses ur phone and an app instead of a dedicated device and after all my research the GW pro , XTool A30m (identical to GW pro) and top don master were the ones I choose from. This being the cheapest of the 3 and With my experience dealing with Gear-wrench/ apex tools with their no hassle Stand behind their product without question customer support is why I choose this over the others. If the top don master was 50 bucks cheaper I would have bought it But hands down this GW pro can’t be beat for the money I spent. 110ish at the time of purchase. This thing is a treasure trove of information and to buy a dedicated scanner that does what this little device will do will cost you significantly more 2x-3x more easily. Now this thing has some features I really like. You can custom pick diffrent sensors and place them on a graph chart all together and something I have only seen a few high end scanners do. You can also click on a sensor and it will pull up a graph in live time of what that sensor is doing. It goes so in depth that I even had to look up what some of the info meant and iv been a professional tech for 5 years now. Now obviously this isn’t a dealer level tool but its not $3000+ either .The Bi directional control allows me to test way more things then a lot of info led on and really no reviews went in depth to how much this little device does. I could literally write for an hour and not cover a quarter of everything I have found and that’s just on two car brands so far in the 2 days iv had it and keep discovering more every day. Definitely recommend but be careful you can also seriously damage ur car with this thing to so be very careful and if you don’t know what something is DO NOT TOUCH IT.

Doesn't Scan Completely For Me
I got this a while ago. I have tried using this on my 2016 subaru xv hybrid from Japan but it doesn't really scan it fully not able to read codes of the engine. I have also used it on my 2020 Mazda CX-30 with a VIN but it was also unable to scan the engine codes from that. The most useful thing we can get from it is the transmission codes and monitoring. Even the manual mode of selection doesn't really help. I have tried reaching out to the company for a while but no ones responds. So just be careful it may work with some vehicles but not all it seems.

Quite an Amazing little tool
I got this only a few hours ago. I have some mechanical training and a few years of wrenching. I was able to fix some issues that have been plaguing one of my cars. This Bluetooth dongle with its bidirectional capabilities allowed vsc reset, testing and actuation of a number of system actions. I can read the values of complex sensors in real time. Quite possibly the most important tool I have now. There’s a latency lag of course. Not as bad as some reviews I have seen online make it out to be. There is a learning curve with these items and it takes some persistence and a bit of resourcefulness to get the desired action. The layout is fairly intuitive but if you haven’t dealt with bidirectional capabilities before, you may end up googling and YouTubing left and right. I certainly did a fair share of it. The fact this has all the capabilities built in with NO subscription is the best feature. Some say there’s a connection issue and reconnect fixes it, I had no such issue using it for about an hour and a half getting to know it and using it. Connect Bluetooth through your phones settings menu and the app connects when you open it. Super excited TPMS not only reads all aspects of the system but you can rewrite to the computer the id of each sensor. True bidirectional features. I have at least 10 dongles, Bl**d***er was an except for mode 6. Even tried another brand Th***di*g and you have to pay for each and every bidirectional capability and for annual access to use the dongle other than obd2 code reading. Some special features just aren’t available with every vehicle and the app will tell you. Everything built in and free forever in this one. You can update and download certain functions or all of them. Firmware seems to be either auto upgrade or not upgradable at least at the moment. Wish list: -I do think maybe a pro and novice mode or added features could be very helpful. Novice to include tutorials and more in-depth instruction and information on the use of each feature. -Add mode6 reading as well. -As is, you select the special feature you want to use then select your car. It would be nice to select or auto select your vehicle first then all features open to you. It’s very time consuming with the UI as is. Learning the capabilities I was in and out of each feature multiple times trying difference iterations and reach and every time you must either auto select or manually select your vehicle over and over and over again. Another device I have operates in a similar fashion to my request and is markedly easier and faster to use. -decrease latency more. When you’re reading a bunch of values at the same time it is slow to show the initial values let alone update. Just a few at a time it is faster. I have a number of readers that a much faster than this one. Again I’ve only had this a couple hours. I’ll update as I get more use out of it Good or bad

Lifetime Updates at a Very Competitive Price
I'm very impressed, and for the money, it's hard to find a better value. I researched several manufacturers like Autel, Topdon and others. There are so many choices, and it's tough to find the sweet spot of features and affordabability without the ongoing cost of a subscription. If you're wondering like I was, this is a rebranded XTool dongle. I figured this out by watching my network to see which domains the app connects to. I'd never heard of XTool until a few minutes ago. The trick to the Bluetooth connection is to not connect through your phone's OS, which will fail every time. Instead, go through the app and into settings, and select the device there. You'll only have to do it once, and then you'll be all set. I've only used the Android app, and even on my Samsung phone it works great, though you can tell that it's really intended to run on a tablet. There's a huge selection of vehicles from different international markets. For instance, I can choose North American Subaru models, JDM models, Australian Subarus, etc. I saw every US domestic brand, all the Japanese brands, and European brands including the more obscure ones. I don't own an EV or hybrid, but I saw the features available for working on those. I bought this to recalibrate my 2016 Forester's steering angle sensor (SAS) and it did the job quickly without any trouble. After disconnecting the car's battery at the airport while I traveled, its ECM was very unhappy and it went into partial limp mode due to the SAS cal being wonky. While looking through the features, I also bled the ABS actuator just for the heck of it. This is nice and will save me in the future from braking hard on a dirt road to do a redneck ABS bleed. There are tons of options for various subsystems of your vehicle. It doesn't do everything like a true professional tool, but for the money it's very hard to beat. I highly recommend it as a DIY guy who constantly works on our vehicles. I'd been holding off on getting a proper diagnostic tool mostly because of the cost, but now I'm wishing I'd bought this a long time ago.

An impressive, inexpensive scanner
Very impressed. For the money this device is really good! It can read all the codes. HVAC, transfer case, entertainment system codes, even the parking assist codes. The live data is extremely helpful and even the bi-directional functions work very well. I had zero issues connecting (Android Samsung phone), and the data displayed in the app was easy to decipher. This is a great addition to my toolset.

Works great, easy to use, and has the functionality of a much more expensive scan tool.
I have been using this for about a year on my BMW, and tacoma and the wife's Mazda. So far it has worked great and provides me with nearly all the fuctionality that my much more expensive Autel scan tool does. I would say I get around 95% of what my Autel can do without the expense of having to purchase the Autel, then pay for the yearly updates that the Autel requires for bug fixes, and updates to the tool. The updates are just free on this, which is awesome! My autel tool requires I pay a yearly subscription that costs more than this tool just to keep getting its updates. This tool does near dealer level diagnostics and is able to read essentially all modules from the vehicle. I have had no issues reading or resetting codes from any car that I have used it on so far. Only issue I had was when I paired it to my older tablet, it didn't auto select the dongle from the bluetooth devices menu, I just had to to into its configuration and manually select the correct bluetooth device for the dongle. After that it worked great. I have actively recommended it in the car forums that I contribute to on a regular basis. I find it easier to use on my android tablet instead of my phone because the items are much more widely spread out so they are easier to read/tap, but defintiely super useful on just a phone.

Great scanner
Setup was easy and straightforward. I reset the emergency parking brake on my 2020 Toyota corolla after doing a brake job on the rear. It was very snappy. Managed to scan the entire cars modules (36 of them) in under 1 minute.

Good basic scanner
Had an issue doing the transmission relearn on my 2015 Subaru forester, GEARWRENCH diag support sent me a solution path that worked. Bang for the buck it’s pretty good. It has a lot of features, nothing too fancy.
