AquaC Remora-S Protein Skimmer with Cobalt 1200 Pump

The biggest thing So far is i ordered this Model S because it's the newer version and is supposed to be quieter because of a foam pad that is supposed to be shipped with this unit. I DIDN'T RECEIVE THE FOAM PAD, so I contacted the seller they replied they will contact the maker. I never heard anything back from them and it is now about 2 weeks ago. I researched the aquaC Remora-S and came up with great reviews. So, I rinsed it with water and installed it. It started up right away but appeared to be putting out a lot of micro bubbles and not pulling any gunk out of water . HOWEVER, LESS THAN 24HOURS LATER IT SEEMS TO BE PULLING GUNK OUT AND THERE IS MORE FOAM NOW IN THE COLLECTION CUP BUT THERE ARE STILL MICRO BUBBLES. This seems to be expected for up to 2 weeks.UPDATE: 2/23/14It has been two weeks with the aqua c remora S running.The seller shipped the foam silencer separately and i'm much happier with the noise level now:)There seems to be less micro bubbles than before and at the end of the first week the skimmer pulled a lot gunk out now seems to be working fine.

This is the best all around hang-on-back protein skimmer for a small-to-medium sized marine aquarium you can find. The hang-on footprint is small both side-to-side and in terms of depth behind the tank, making it easy to fit on your tank and between the tank and the wall. The pump provides good flow and I was producing skimmate the first day I installed this. After a week of adjustments, we're getting a good volume of reasonably dry skimmate.However, you should consider getting the in-tank overflow box kit to go with this. This adds a two-chamber box: one side has an overflow with teeth to hold your intake pump for the skimmer and the second chamber is a bubble trap for the outflow. This allows you to pull surface water into the skimmer to remove film and prevent microbubbles from entering your display.EDIT: I've been runnning this skimmer for over a month now and remain quite happy with it. It's noticably quieter than other HOB skimmers I've used, including the smaller, previous generation Remora Nano skimmer on my other tank.

Nice little skimmer but does produce very wet foam. After a few months mine is still producing macro bubbles so keep that in mind. Would I buy it again? Most likely but I may look for something with a smaller internal pump as the external pump is quite large.

I purchased this skimmer off of Amazon because it says its a great skimmer and very quiet I received it and put it on my aquarium it was very loud and the only thing it was collecting was water and discharging a lot of micro bubbles in my tank so I return it and they only give me half of my money back because they say it's used so they can't resell it at full Price. If that isn't bad enough they recently put it back on their website and under the comments says used protein skimmer a little dirty but works fine customer couldn't figure out how to use it I'm the customer I know how to use a protein skimmer. It's not my fault you sell an inferior product!

I replaced the original AquaC Remora MaxiJet 1200 with this S-model and have seen a significant improvement in the amount of waste it removes. With the earlier model, I always had the cup all the way down and got minimal output (mostly waste buildup inside the column, very little in the collection cup). With the new model, I have the cup raised high and still get good output in the collection cup and the column stays cleaner. It is a definite improvement over the previous model.

This skimmer works great. Started getting skim with in a day. Would recommend to everyone. I am new to the salt water hobby and looked at cheaper ones to start out with. After reading tons of reviews on all the different HOB skimmers, this one seemed to have the best reviews. Have had it for a month and a half and is working great.

I have a Fish Only 48g tank with a Fluval 306 canister filter, the Aqua C Remora S, w/prefilter box works very well with this size tank, it was easy to install, the directions are very insightful in describing, installation, break in period & tweaking the operation of the skimmer. I couldn't be more pleased with the results.

Had one for a few years. Does need a little maintenance as deposits build up. Included brush does the trick. Just bought another, as it seems to work quite well.
