15 years late
I bought this timer in 2009 and well....here's my review in 2024.I actually bought 2 of these transformers; on both of them the timers went out pretty quick. No worries, just plug it in to a timer. Which I have done. It powers my 12 landscape lights that I use as security lights (I have them attached to the eaves of my home and workshop), and I have had a lot of success with the lights and the transformers. They have a very solid steel case and over time it shows no sign of wear, nor even deterioration. I paid $66 way back when. What a great deal and product! Of course now that I am writing this, I am expecting doomsday with it.

Buyer beware - Product is not 12VAC as advertised
Please be aware that this product does NOT output 12VAC - the actual output voltage is only around 8.5VAC !If you have a longer run of lights (over 25 ft) this could have a significant impact as was experienced in my situation. When planning for long runs, you should use a heaver gauge wire (thicker wire) to minimize voltage drop from beginning to end. In my case, my old transformer (Malibu 600W - actually dual 300W outputs) measured 12V at the first bulb and around 8-9V at the last bulb on the wire (around 75 ft run). When the Malibu burned out after 10yrs of use, I bought this Intermatic 300W to replace it. The lights were significantly dimmer, so I measured with a DMM. The first bulb measured 8.3V and the last bulb was 4.5V. I am using 12V/18W halogen bulbs and only have 10 bulbs on the circuit (180 Watts total, plus cable loss). For my application, I need 12V output to start with, so this product does not perform as labeled and I am returning it.I also own an Intermatic 150W for the front walkway lights (under 25ft) and the light is sufficient when using 12V/10W halogen bulbs. I did measure the voltage and it is also 8.5VAC at the transformer - clearly Intermatic designed these transformers to use a lower-voltage rating than is labeled! I call this fraud - but for some of you reading this may find it still works for your application. Depending on your bulb wattage, you may not notice the difference. Either way - buyer beware and shame on Intermatic for trying to pass these products off as 12VAC transformers!!!

Intermatic ML300RTW Power Pack/Timer
I purchased the Intermatic ML300RTW Maliabu 300 Power Pack w/Timer and groud a couple of days ago from Amazon. The first one shipped out did not work. It was(faulty)out of the box, thinking here we go! I made the return on the item the next day and was shipped a (new) one in a couple of days if that by Amazon. I have to say shipping is not an issue, it is fast. I did buy this particular power supply for the low cost and easy functions including installation. I had shopped all over including local dealers and could not find a better price for what I needed, installing landscape lighting. I also could have purchased a smaller wattage unit but made my decision on 300w was for future add on's if needed with no problem, such as dimming lights which is mentioned on a regular basis in other review installations. I did read all the reviews posted on Amazon before I made my purchase having to disagree with some of the other opinions on this particualr item, (small dial) for time setting and the (humming noise) which I would think this is some what normal to a degree, remember the cost.I would have to give this item a great value for the cost and if I get a few years of usage out of it, it is money worth spent.

The best of the best
SOLID Quality, no junk here. Easy to set up, and comes with the option and controls for two on/off cycles per 24 hours. I have bought other brands and they were a waste of $$. This one will last for years (I have one going on 10 years of daily use now), survive all sorts of weather and storms, and absolutely zero issues. Pay attention to auto timers and what they promise, then buy this one. It will do what the rest claim to do but do it for years and years

Intermatic ML300RTW Malibu 300-Watt Transformer
Although I've not install this transformer at this writing, I've opened the package and read the manual. The unit appears to be sturdy and well-built. Most of my lights to be connected are LED and should not add up to anywhere near the capactiy of this transforner, but I did want one that could handle whatever else I intend to connect in the future. There will be a combination of assorted lights including a gas lamp post being converted to low voltage, concrete pagoda, rock lights, solar pagodas converted to low voltage, etc. The area being covered includes front, back and side yards. This project has been in the planning stages for over a year mainly due to locating the appropriate fixtures to create the look I wanted. The gas lamp post is being converted from natural gas to low voltage using a kit, but not all of the inclusive parts because I'm integrating with the rest of the lighting. The solar pagodas are being converted by extracting parts from available LED fixtures and retrofitting into the pagodas. Had intended to purchase "ready-to-go" fixtures, but these just aren't available anywhere. The lighting is primarily intended to highlight various landscape features such as several fountains, birdhouses, etc. along with pathlights. The entire system will be controlled by this transformer with the optional photocell. I'm a hardcore DIY person and not timid in experimenting or doing what had not been done before.Intermatic ML300RTW Malibu 300-Watt Power Pack with Timer and Ground Shield
