Early American Country Interiors

This book was helpful and insightful. Also the pictures were just awesome. I know I will use this book as a reference in future design projects and just to look at while relaxing. Would highly recommend this book along with his first book American Country Homes. Hope he does another one!

Very similar to Early American Country Homes, which I reviewed. Beautiful photos. Don't want to overthink it: I just love this style and enjoy studying the pictures. As I mentioned in my other review, I wish there were more close-ups of the individual pieces (I know, it's a book for decorators not cabinetmakers) and fewer examples of David T. Smith's kitchens.

If you wish to create the modern, highly curated and designed concept of a typical "early Amerian" home interior as seen in magazines, this Is an excellent book. And not just for the pretty pictures, which are plentiful. It goes into detail on the basics of creating these very regimented, stylistic rooms, the way shape and color and proportion are used to create just the right look, the Golden Mean, etc. It's a good design book on several levels. It has little to do with authenticity or recreation of historically accurate interiors and students of early homes and architectural design or room use will find literally nothing here. But if you want to create a magazine style house, this is your book. This is about how to make your stainless, 8 eye Viking range look "country". And there's nothing wrong with that as long as you don't act surprised when you get the book.

Beautiful photographs. I would give five stars if all the photos inside conveyed the same level of primitive country warmth as the cover.

This is a terrific interior design book that focuses on early American style homes. I have learned a lot and hopfull of e to apply it to my home built in 1816. I think it will help me edit my belongings to achieve the best effect.

This book is perfect. The pictures are wonderful. The text was exactly what I was looking for! I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in primitive or early America style!

What a wonderful book to browse through again and again. Great photos of room after rooms through several homes giving the most unique ideas to decorating in a period of time and mixing old with new. Love looking through this book,great Find.
