Great book about the AR-15. Up-to-date and very thorough.
I normally wait until I actually use a product or, in this case, write a review of a book but, in this case, I can see without even reading it that it's an outstanding book. I've slowly flipped through it and can see taht it is incredibly complete. I have a similar book by the same publisher on the M1 Garand and that book is great but this one is even better and more complete. On top of that, it's a brand new edition (published in 2014 - it's 2014 as I write this review) and it's really up-to-date. As soon as I post this review, I'm going to start reading it from cover to cover. It's larger and more detailed that the M1 Garand book by the same publisher and it appears to cover everything andowner of an AR-15 would possibly ever want to know. Without even reading it yet (but paging through it slowly), I can highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the AR-15 rifle.Update: I have now read about 1/2 of the book and looked even more carefully at the rest. The book is even better than I thought when I wrote the above review. If you have an AR-15 or have an interest in AR-15s, get this book if you don't have it already.

Best book to build an AR and not mess up.
I have recommended this book to everyone who buys a lower in my store. Step by step instructions, piece by piece, no mistakes. I even gave my older copy to a customer who bought a complete (legal) rifle kit/ As an Anderson dealer It solves problems before that become problems. I suggest this book for a first time builder or a multiple builder. It is like a desk top reference manual.

The book starts with a history of the development of ...
The book starts with a history of the development of the AR platform. This is important but not what I wanted to read. It finally explained how the rifle worked and gave detailed information about the parts and the problems that came with shortening the barrel. It also discussed the differences with other calibers. This was what I wanted to learn. Finally it told about the accessories which was very interesting. If you own an AR or just want to learn about them you should read this book.

Good read. A keeper for your gun book library!
This should be the Owner's Manual shipped with every AR-15 purchase. If you built your first AR-15, as I did, this book will serve you well. It covers the history and development as well. For a quick review of AR no-no's read through the "pitfalls" listed all through the book. I enjoyed the book enough, I purchased one for my sister who has a Danial Defense AR-15.

If you can only afford one book, this is the one.
Great book, gives a interesting and vivid look at the development of the number one sporting arms in the United States of America. This provided interesting information for all sporting fans. If you can only afford one book then this is the book, if two books then the companion book "AR-15 Complete Assembly Guide" would the second book you should buy.

AR-15 Reference Guide
This is an in-depth study of the evolution of the AR-15. The authors cover just about every aspect of what an AR-15 really is, why it is the way it is, and what you need to know to get the most out of it according to your needs. It is not short on what you can do with it (i.e. modifications, add-ons), why you want to add or not to add to it an item, and covers safety, safety, safety. This is a book you'll most likely be going back to for reference. The authors give their preferences of choice, but don't push what you should do. They merely give you options to consider and why or why not. It's filled with pictures to give a clear understanding of what they are talking about, too.

Don’t believe the Title
Interesting and well researched background, but not what I expected from a book called “the complete user guide!” For those who want to learn about the history a great book. For those who look for guidance as an owner not so much.
