Pilot Futayaku Double-Sided Brush Pen - Black / Gray Ink

The tip allows for very thin lines with a light touch or bold lines when going heavier. I find I can get a good range of line widths in a single stroke. The tip is holding up well. I often add watercolor over it and it doesn't bleed even with lots of water. The main reason I bought this pen was for the double point - black and gray. I've had others, and the gray is often a weird color - too blue or too green. This is much closer to a neutral gray. I will be buying more even though I feel the price is a little on the high side. For me they're worth it.

I've wanted a double-sided pen for a very long time for sketching on postcards and this works perfectly for that purpose. The ink flows well and while writing letters, they come out nice and sharp. Bonus points for the grey tip. I've used it to shade my sketches and the outcome was decent, both shades blend well. But having said all of that, I only use it for personal greetings such as postcards, letters and cards, which really don't have or need exemplary artistic skills. However, this pen works pretty well for me and I love it. Also, it did take a long time to arrive but it came all the way from Japan, and the wait for me was worth it.

Originally I was disappointed to see that the other pen tip was gray and not black. Concerned that it would also cut into the ink it could hold and therefore cut the life of the pen short, I put it to the side and refused to work with it.When I finally picked it up to mess around with it, I actually fell in love with it. The ink flows well, and I really like that it's a mid-level brush tip. It doesn't have that full brush feel like some pens, but it has just enough give that I find myself picking it up pretty often to breath a little bit of life into my pieces. I've changed my tune and ordered some more of these.Four stars because I'd rather it not even bother with the gray tip.

These little pens are great brush pens that really perform. The brush tip allows for a level of control that I haven't found in any other brush marker I've owned. Very fine to broad lines are easily accomplished, and the black ink is rich and waterproof. The grey ink is a nice bonus as well. I wish however it were just a little bit deeper in value, creating a more pronounced contrast when shading a sketch done with the black side of the marker.I initally ordered 3 of these to experiment with, and after several sketches found myself addicted to them! I just ordered 4 more.

Really nice compact drawing pen! It's great to have gray and black in one pen. The tip is soft enough to give variation in line width but hard enough for fine lines. The gray blends with the black well. It is a smallish pen, but big enough with one cap on to be comfortable in the hand. Not sure how long it'll last, But for the price seems a good value.

The ink seems OFF-BLACK: like it was slightly watered down.

I have to agree with others that the 'hard brush' tip on this is the perfect balance, at least for me. If you only have room for or only want one inking pen along with that sketchbook or whatever, this guy has lots to offer. I feel like I can get several line widths from the tip with nice control. The gray end is just a bonus, and that works well too. Great gray shade, not too dark and not too light. Perfect for adding those hints of shadow to a roughly inked sketch. Love it, and love the price. Well worth the wait.
